Funny thing. When someone with a sword (or any blade) is already that close (unless you've already got your gun out and somewhat lucky) you'll still lose. I know this because... well, let's just say that I have a relative who's a weapons enthusiast.
But yeah, even Mythbusters covered it at one point. So Dr. Jones was lucky that the shouting swordsman was so.... dumb.

Sword fighting is so easy that a child (and Koz) can learn it. To master it is a whole 'nother story.
(BTW Koz. The answer is to deflect the blade to the side as your opponent stabs in like that. (In this case, specifically to the right.) It'll throw him off balance for a moment as you go in for the kill. The same if it comes down from above. If it comes at you from the side deflect up or down into the ground. A blade is only effective in traveling in the direction that it's moving. Sadly, I can see why Fredy lost to JinJur. His stance is all wrong. I mean it's right for fencing, but completely inappropriate for that particular type of sword.... Hey, was that intentional? Or some kind of "happy accident"?)

Finding good poses to use as drawing models is harder than you'd think. Fencing poses are exaggerated in a way that no self-preserving swordsman would ever want to assume. And stuff from HEMA and SCA aren't very well photographed. I've tried to get my husband to help me choreograph the fight scenes but he keeps avoiding me.

Happy accident it is then. Helps to show a slight mistake in his basic training in my opinion. Thus helps humanize him a bit along with his... earlier shame of losing to Jinjur. It shows how he can improve himself in the future. (It's a comic, so exaggerations are perfectly acceptable. Didn't mean to criticize for real if that's how I came across. Just silly comments playing into my fursona's history of "combat training" really.)
I would avoid you too if you were the one holding the sword... which you are...
