Born in the year of the cat,
Taught to fight for what you want,
Razed in fire and ash,
Tonight there's no turning back,
The city screams your destiny,
There's no gravity,
High in your flying machine,
Watch over me,
Where are you now?
Are you feeling well or are you breaking down,
I know how alone you feel so far away,
While they pretend to remember you,
Laika, I'll make you proud,
Is laika coming home? laika,
Please come home
Taught to fight for what you want,
Razed in fire and ash,
Tonight there's no turning back,
The city screams your destiny,
There's no gravity,
High in your flying machine,
Watch over me,
Where are you now?
Are you feeling well or are you breaking down,
I know how alone you feel so far away,
While they pretend to remember you,
Laika, I'll make you proud,
Is laika coming home? laika,
Please come home

I thought I'd share a similar song with you about Laika.
It makes me cry.

Poor Laika.
The cage is very small
A tiny silver ball
That makes you a hero
The moment you step inside
The world is watching you
What you're about to do
Will live on forever
Even though you'll be dead
And gone
Buckle up
We're about to turn the engines on.

Hello from Sputnik 2
I am receiving you
Thanks for the dog food
I'm somewhere above you now
Guess what Malashenkov?
I took the collar off
I'm holding my own leash
And walking myself outside
This door
I don't think
I want to be a good dog anymore.
Now I'm floating free
And the moon’s with me
And it's bright enough
To light the dark
And it's so high up here
And the stars so clear
Are they close enough?
Will they hear me bark from here?
Moscow to Sputnik 2
I think we're losing you
Your life signs are fading
We can't really say that we're
Surprised
It's a shame
There is always something that gets compromised
Now I'm floating free
And the moon's with me
And it's bright enough
To light the dark
And it's so high up here
And the stars so clear
Are they close enough?

*hugs* Me too. I have pictures of her all over my house and all of the stamps she has been on over the years. She is a true hero and everyone should know about her and her story. What happened to her is very very sad. Everyone should know about her and what happened. Oleg Gazenko's quote in your picture is very true and a touching addition.
When I read about Laika or look at pictures of her all I can think is 'What have we done?'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laika_%28comics%29 <- you should try to get hold of a copy of this f you don't have it already. It is a beautifully illustrated account of Laika from birth to death. It is all told from her point of view and very powerful, so much so I had to stop reading it because it was too emotionally powerful for me.
I am glad you appreciate Laika as much as I do. Each evening of Nov 3, I put a candle in my window for her . Perhaps you will do the same? I'll be doing a journal about it and getting others to join in on this when the time comes. *hugs*
