Protagonists from Cave Story, an amazing game developed independently by Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya for PC and then ported by Studio Nicalis to WiiWare for more mainstream consumption for its overall quality as a solid, retro-style action/exploring title.
If you don't already have experience with this game, I highly recommend it- for the thrifty you can get the full game in original PC form with just a little bit of searching, and for those of you with a Wii and $12, GET IT! :3

You have the basic playthrough with I believe three settings of difficulty (hard mode is running through the game with 3 HP and just the regular Polar Star- I wept and laughed as I went to pick up the rocket launcher and found a lonely-looking empty space), a Boss Rush mode, the option to play with original or updated graphics and music (separate toggles for each), and an alternate playthrough called "Curly Story" which swaps the usual protagonist, changing up the dialog and possibly other events in the game (though it's been pretty standard three zones in).
Also, if you weren't able to play with a USB controller on your PC, it plays like a dream with the control pad (once you've gotten the hang of gliding around without arrow keys). :3

SPOILER WARNINGS! Sorry, couldn't figure out how to write the post without spoiling some very minor things.
If Curly and Quote are convincing enough that it takes people, particularly Professor Booster, awhile to realize they're robots, I don't think they're as #FFFFFF white as the in-game sprites suggest. Perhaps just really pale? Or, from a gameplay perspective, so you know exactly where you are when everything goes down.
END SPOILERS.
Also, Hard Mode limits you to the Polar Star? Sod that, I thought it was just forcing a mandatory Low% run! Which has been beaten in roughly an hour fifteen by some incredibly dedicated crazy person.
