2016 art, and there's a potentially mildly interesting origin story for this character...

I had one of those oddly vivid dreams I have every so often, and this teenage fox was the main protagonist. He was being bullied and harassed in school, and later that night after getting home, something happened to his house that caused him and his father to have to leave. Whatever was going on, it revolved around some mysterious past stuff I either don't remember or didn't actually dream about. Dreams are weird like that.

So, when I got a chance, I drew him, and later on, his father.

I didn't recall many specific details of the "story" of the dream beyond what I already typed about it, but I decided that I should move him and his father to Hartford, the town that is home to most of my other high-school student characters. More than likely, he and his father skipped town and wound up in the relatively quiet town of Hartford, hoping for a fresh start or at the very least a bit of peace and quiet. Hopefully Zachary won't have as many problems with his new classmates as he did at his last school, and their past doesn't follow them here.

Later development of him and his father has Zachary's father, Peter, as a single dad and an alcoholic with some demons of his own, and I recently decided that soldier Farley Reynard is Zachary's older brother--a bit of a retcon, I suppose, but they do have the same surname so it works.
"Reynard" is basically the fox surname equivalent of "Smith" in my universe I guess, a very common family name.
