I'm back with another story! Because my life is being upended, this is a rather short one, but I wanted to make sure I got something out for you beautiful people! It's about 1700 words, but don't worry! I plan on making Chapter 11 LOONNNGGG, so look forward to that sometime tomorrow!
This chapter focuses on our favorite couple as they wake up from their exciting Fourth of July fiasco. There are a lot of feels in this chapter, but our main characters are finding out they can trust each other with anything now! They have each other!
I hope you guys don't mind the short Chapter 10. Usually people go all out for something like this, but my life is a bit crazy right now, so it will have to wait for chapter 11. I plan on doing quite a bit with it! Look forward to it!
Anyways. Hope you all have fun continuing to read about the husky and the fennec! Criticism is much appreciated, and I hope you all have a wonderful day and or night and or evening!
Café Husky
Chapter 10
You wake up the next morning to something soft and warm shoved up against your chest. You rub your eyes groggily, looking at the white visage of someone in bed with you. Your sleepy mind goes back to the night before, and you think of all the great things you and Husk did together. From watching the weird fireworks, to playing videogames with headphones on.
To falling asleep with your arms around him.
Oh yeah.
That happened.
You remove your arms from around Husk, looking over the slightly chubby husky. His white fur always looked so clean and well-kept, even with the brown fur intermingled that looked sprayed on. It didn’t make him look dirty at all, just the opposite actually, it looked really good on him. The brown fur really accentuated all of his features perfectly, making him all the more attractive to you. His curly tail was wagging uncontrollably against you. He must be having a good dream.
You decide it was time to get out of bed. You slide your short self slowly off the side of the bed, not wanting to wake up Husk. Your mission is successful, and you slowly sneak your way into the bathroom, using all the skills you used while playing as Slippery Snake. A character from the Silver Spock games, who is based on a real anthro snake who snuck into an enemy base on a tactical mission. It was some pretty riveting stuff.
You, of course, weren’t Slippery Snake, and what you thought was you sneaking around, was actually you running into every single object on your way to the bathroom. There wasn’t anything in the hallway to knock over, but you still managed to knock everything over. You also managed to hurt your head while doing what you thought was an amazing dive roll, and having basically broken every bone in your body, you sneak around the bathroom door, and closing it quietly, for real this time.
Your bathroom trip is short, and you move into the kitchen to make your coffee for the morning. You yawn, and rub your eyes, trying to make the grogginess go away. It doesn’t work though, and you are still just as tired, despite what you thought were your magical healing paws.
You start up the pot of coffee, happy that you finally have a way to wake up, even after you basically broke everything on the way to the bathroom. You lean over the counter, waiting for the coffee to brew. The beige fur on your arms contrasting with the white countertops. Making you wonder why the apartment furs gave you such nice countertops. Where did they find the money to put this stuff in? They were reluctant to give you a toilet, but they were fine with giving you marble counter tops? While stuck in your thoughts, you don’t notice the Slippery Husk sneak up behind you.
“GOOD MORNING!” He says this loudly, while wrapping his arms around your neck. Your body tries to jump, but Husk holds you in place, lightly holding onto your neck to stop you from moving. He kisses the side of your head, making you blush, and you dart your paw to your necklace, but your hasty retreat from the bedroom made you leave it in there. He hugs you tighter for a second, before releasing you. You turn around to face him, and you see a giant grin across his face.
Great, he’s a morning person.
You glare at him, but he seems used to it at this point, because he just continues smiling at you, clearly undeterred by your anger. You sigh, feeling too tired to deal with anyone happy, even if the said fur was your boyfriend, “Mornin’ Husk.” That’s all you could muster. Your voice still sounds groggy, so you move to the cabinet and get the coffee cup that says, ‘I Don’t Give a Fox’, before filling it with some good ol’ rejuvenation juice.
Husk looks at your tired face, before realization hits his face, speaking way too loudly for your tired mind, “Oh yeah! I remember now. You’re not a morning person. I completely forgot.” He slaps his forehead with his paw, before you see a mischievous smile spread across his face, before he speaks up again, “Well, how could you be sad when waking up to this face?!” You turn to him, and you see him making the widest grin he could muster. You can’t help but smile at his attempt to wake you up, chuckling at him, and already feeling the coffee doing its work to wake you up.
The cute husky standing here also seems to be helping you wake up.
You set down your coffee, placing your paws on either side of your body, looking at Husk again, before speaking up, “Yeah, I guess you’re right. Who can stay asleep with this cute a husky before them?” That causes Husk to blush this time, the fur on his cheeks turning a deep red. You loved seeing him flustered, it really helps brighten up your day. The cute husky has such a way with you, and you don’t even know how he does it.
Husk looks down at the coffee cup next to your paw, and you can see the wheels turning in his head, before you see the lightbulb click on, and he bursts out laughing. His laughing turns out to be pretty infectious and you can’t help but bust out laughing too.
All from that dumb cup with that dumb joke.
You need to buy another coffee mug.
The both of you eventually calm down from your fits of laughter, Husk wipes a tear from his eye, before commenting on the cup, still in the throes of the joke, “So, ummm…” He snickers, “What’s with the cup? Is it something else your sister got for you?”
You nod, confirming it. Your sister bought you a whole bunch of stuff once she figured out you hated being called a normal fox, when you were obviously a fennec. Did furs not see the ears? They shoot off into the heavens!
Husk sees your distressed look, and decides to comment on it, “Are you and your sister close? You don’t talk about her much, but I can tell she means a lot to you.”
You nod your head, upset with the whole situation. You let out a heavy sigh, before explaining it to Husk, “Yeah. I guess you could say that. We are very close, but we go through times where we lose touch with each other, and now is one of those times, which sucks, because she’s the only other person who accepted me for who I am.” You let out another sigh, “I guess it can’t be helped sometimes. People lose touch all the time. I just wish it wasn’t my sister and I.”
Husk looks at you, concern in his eyes. Then his face turns to one of anger quickly, before he starts talking angrily at you, “Okay then, well, do you actually try to reach out to her? You could try to open up the conversation with her, so she’ll actually talk to you, you know? If you were so down in the dumps before you started talking to me, then why didn’t you do it then? You don’t have to walk through life alone you know? There are people who want to talk with you and make you feel better, and who want to share experiences with you.” You had averted his gaze once he started talking, but he turns your head back towards, wiping the tear that was forming off your face, and caressing your face.
Of course, everything that he was saying was true, and you knew it. You could have reached out to her, at least tried to maintain the only meaningful relationship in your life, but you were scared that she had forgotten about you, or, at the very least, thought she had better things to do other than talk to her younger brother.
Husk sees more tears forming along your eyes, and he wipes them away with his free paw, before resting that one on your cheek, he continues on softly, “Hey. C’mon now, stop with that. We have a busy day ahead of us. You can text her tonight. It can’t hurt to at least do that, right?” You nod your head, that was true, you have to at least do that, then you can tell her about Husk! She needs to know about him. Husk sees you cheer up, and continues on, happily, “Okay, great! Not that you are feeling a bit better, why don’t you start getting ready? We have to pack up my belongings today and bring them over here. There shouldn’t be much to get, just clothes and other small things. I know you don’t have much room in your apartment, so I may have to pack light, but we’ll figure it out. Now go get ready, I’ll wait in here for you.”
You nod your head, wiping away the tears that had formed from your conversation, before turning toward the bathroom. Husk stops you though, pulling you in a tight hug from behind, his soft fur soothes your worries, and pulls you into a state of bliss. He keeps you there for a moment, before speaking softly again, “And you don’t have to worry about being alone anymore, I’m here for you. I will always be here for you. We’re living together now, so you have no choice but to deal with me now, right?”
You feel a smile spread across your maw, before your paw caresses his cheek, glad to have him with you, “Right. I don’t have to act like I’m alone anymore, because I have you to walk through this with me, and that’s enough for me.” You kiss his cheek, and caress the bridge of his snout, before you lean your head into his face, loving the feeling of him against you. It always calmed you down.
You sadly pat his muzzle, having to start getting ready. He removes himself from you, regretfully, before nodding his head. You both had a long day ahead of you.
