It's a Kappa. A vampiric Japanese water demon. It has to keep the bowl in its skull full of water otherwise it becomes powerless. One can trick a Kappa into spilling the water out of its head by bowing to it. It will be compelled to bow back. They also have a fondness for cucumbers.
