So in Richie Rich and Casper issue #30, September 1979, King Midas pops in to the magic forest where Casper and Wendy live and what do you know but accidents happen. In the panel I'm loosely copying, it's Richie Rich who makes this joke to the gold-statue Wendy, who thinks her laugh. Casper, in telepathic contact with Wendy because ?? ??? ? ??????? ???? ?? promises she liked the joke. I redrew it a bit because I thought Richie Rich's outfit was too complicated for the energy I had this morning, and then I went and blew all that time saving by coloring and highlighting Wendy and even putting in a background. Also it turns out Casper's head is incredibly hard to draw; the lack of ears means it just looks like a large and wrongly-shaped blob. The alert eye will notice I drew the word and thought balloons Walt Kelly style, instead of Harvey Comics House style, but I like the overstuffed look of a Walt Kelly word balloon.
A fun thread in the Richie-Rich-and-Casper stories is Richie Rich is unshakably convinced that these are dreams, I guess because the dream-logic stories of Casper adventures are somehow noticeably different from the dream-logic stories of his native tales? Anyway, it means Richie Rich plunges in toward the danger blissfully confident that nothing bad can possibly happen, while Casper and Wendy are low-key freaking out over getting turned to gold or whatever. Turns out I quite like this as a story driver.

Seriously! Who knew it was that easy?
For those who somehow don't happen to have this issue of Richie Rich and Casper, yeah, you could solve the whole problem of being turned to gold by spelling 'Gold' backwards in your head. King Midas was so embarrassed he never tried that with his poor statue-ified daughter.
