This Asiatic Lion is a rare sub-species of lion found in Asia. They have combed hair and a bit shorter mane, and they are mostly golden in color and lighter mane (according to most encyclopedias).

Interestingly, my character Indra (see "Shore Leave") turned out to be an Asiatic lion, before I knew about the sub-species... The giveaway is the mane above the head, which looks rather short compared to African lions. Asiatic lions look almost like men with large beards and short hair!
