Considering that the emphasis is on the kids (although folks definitely enjoy the nostalgia associated with the background), I think you worry about it a little too much. Unless you spent a lot of money on negative preservation back in the day, you're going to spend the time on salvaging it today. Nost of my old negs are scrap.
