Sowbugs (and pillbugs) are not actually bugs. They are isopods which are a type of crustacean (related to crabs and lobsters). Think Trilobites! This one was quite large for these guys, not that you can tell in the pic.

They live under rocks, leaves and logs. They like dark, damp places. Harmless.

I can see where Myazaki got his inspiration for the "King Bug" in "Naasicua," Or "Warriors of the Wind." (Great Micro shot too.)

Yes I think so. They were impressive creatures though. That was an interesting film.
