Isn't this the face of a trustworthy person hoping to do you a favor? One of the last sequences of Ten Ever-Lovin' Blue-Eyed Years With Pogo has Sam offering a bottle of spelling gnats to Beauregard Bugleboy. The gnats are there to form word balloons and, in a stroke of inspiration provided by Ring Lardner, they become a sports news ticker, ultimately getting to win the World Series. It's a great bit of silliness. Special feature here: I figured out a way to do the spotting for Sam's cheek that I liked. One layer is black lines with a long taper. Another layer atop it is white lines with the same taper, but at a different angle. And then another, at yet another different angle. It's not as random-dotted as would be if were truly speckled, but it's got a nice effect.
