Oil on canvasboard, 30" x 20".

This has been a slow progression over the last year, and is my first large(ish) oil painting.

The inspiration behind this is from stories and photos of the American Old West, but from a slightly different perspective. The horse's face has been detailed as much as my limited skill allows, whereas the rider's is left as an impression, they aren't the focus of this painting. The title refers to the brand of pistol which is illuminating the scene with the flash from the muzzle.

In short, it's meant to be a depiction of a moment from a working horse's life, almost everything in the scene is centered on the gun, the battle between instinct and conditioning keeping everything in balance.
