IT CONTINUES
And I can't tell you all how much of a challenge this was. As I draw more characters that I've made over time, I realize I have a lot of minor characters now too and this is one of them. I still didn't have much of an idea for her when I drew her, in terms of personality and especially story, but it certainly showed in her design; I did this first on Twitter, but just like my first attempt at Rainbow, I was very much disappointed with the outcome and wanted to try again.
Therefore, I was looking all over for references to use when redrawing this Pikachu, and I ended up falling on a group of references for the head, and one other picture for the body. Credit goes to sharkallaf (https://www.deviantart.com/users/outgoing?https://twitter.com/sharkallaf?s=20) and Roy (http://www.furaffinity.net/user/roy/) for these both, that helped me get this character drawn; a warning though, both pages are marked as not safe for work even though the images linked are safe, please proceed to them with caution. I looked through both artists' pages for a commonality in these areas and when I finally got a good look, everything else just fell into place and it turned out to be a lot better than I could've imagined, and this is technically only my third time drawing a Pikachu! This is even my first time drawing a character facing to the right, where as all of my other drawings have been of the subject facing forward to their left.
Anyway, this character was the result of an on-going Pokémon theme I have with my friend, SDragon01 (https://www.deviantart.com/sdragon01), in which a lot of Pokémon characters are being made to pair with our other main characters, to kinda give them teams, or other characters some relevance again, while also cleaning out the ones that really aren't. I also use this as an opportunity to draw something new outside of all the Yoshis that I've stuck to over the years.
Funny enough, though, this wasn't a character that we created together, this was all my doing; it just happened to fall into the same theming at the moment. Her full name is Primrose Doyle-Dixon-Hazelnut-Pikachu, however you can shorten it to Primrose Pikachu or use the nickname Rosie to address her. She currently belongs to Rainbow (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/37229708/), and is considered to be her first Pokémon. Her name was chosen as it sounded similar to a rainbow, or prism. It also started with P, which means it would match up with her species; it also comes with a secondary name within it - Rosie - as well as a nickname for if and when she evolves into a Raichu.
Primrose comes from the Ké Kingdom as well, born in the care of the Pokémon Research Laboratory located in Destiny Village (don't worry, I plan to write about all of this eventually). She was often seen helping out the professors in the lab, as well as her fellow Pokémon learning new things or helping them battle, which led to her evolving into a Pikachu. Often she would decline being chosen by up-and-coming Trainers, as she felt her duties at the lab were more important. As she grew older, her fur begun to grow a little longer, she was able to stylize it some more, her personality began to change, but she still remained at the lab.
Eventually Primrose would be offered the opportunity to become a Support Pokémon, a distinction known for the most noteworthy of Pokémon who are assigned to someone out there who needs them emotionally or physically - similar to service animals we know. She accepted, but was hesitant; how soon would it be before she had to leave the nation possibly? What about all her friends here? All of that would come to be when one of the offers she was given was written by a Yoshi in the Kingdom of Light, requesting a Support Pokémon to provide emotional uplifting for a young girl who is struggling herself after the abuse of her parents. Along with a picture and a bit of a description, she knew this was the one she was called to help. Days later, she met with the father[ly figure], Kyle, to explain his case; this solidified Primrose's decision, and was turned over to the Yoshi to take back home.
Back home, Kyle then released Primrose from her now-assigned Poké Ball, and was introduced to Rainbow, who took her away to a private spot in the Silver Tower in order to talk with her. At first, Rainbow was still as quiet as she had been, but over time, realizing Primrose's open nature, and being a girl, Rainbow was able to explain herself to Primrose; it started to become less of a relationship in which Primrose was hired/chosen to come to this girl's aid, and more of a genuine friendship. It helped that Primrose's personality and interests were either matching or very similar to Rainbow's: the Pikachu is a tomboyish mouse with a bit of a sassy and confident side, she always looks for the best in others, as she always had back home in the Ké Kingdom. She's not afraid to get loud and rowdy when things are against her, especially if it means defending someone she cares about. Primrose is also a fan of music, she was always seen enjoying it when it played on the radio, in her free time, while she was working, and helping use it to encourage others around her. She eventually learned how to sing, and started doing so with Rainbow, learning that she would use music to help her through tough times; it was a stronger impact after Primrose started to sing along with Rainbow's playing.
She was nearly caught up in a bit of drama as well, after meeting another Pikachu who lived in the Silver Tower, Helix (https://www.deviantart.com/sdragon01/art/Pikachu-OC-Helix-198667469). She would begin spending time with him as well, and on certain days, it was noticeable how much time she was with him as opposed to the girl she was sent here to be with. This caused Rainbow to regress some and hate Primrose for her ignorance, thinking she was just going to lose her like she lost her parents. She hated Helix more for the idea of stealing her closest friend. Despite this claim, neither mice ever had that thought, and they both felt very bad for treating Rainbow this way in as vulnerable and fragile state she still was. Helix, though, made the first move and explained to her what was going on, and apologized for making Rainbow feel this way. Forgiving him, Rainbow then took Helix with her, and this would be the first steps towards Rainbow becoming a Pokémon Trainer.
The three of them were friends together, and now that Rainbow had forgiven Helix, it was a lot easier to be together as she had accepted Helix as a friend; the three of them are inseparable. It was in this moment as well that Rainbow revealed that she had some feelings for Primrose for being the friend that she was. Later, it was chosen a rainbow would represent Rainbow's Pokémon. In Primrose's case, it was originally going to be an emblem on her jacket, but it was decided later that a rainbow jacket like Rainbow's would work better. It would also work in having some commonality with her Trainer and Helix, as all wear a top of some sort: Rainbow's jacket has long sleeves, Primrose's has short sleeves, and Helix's has none.
Like Rae before he evolved, Primrose is an Ioan Pikachu. There are some visual and anatomical changes compared to a Pure Pikachu (https://www.deviantart.com/users/outgoing?https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pikachu_(Pokémon)), in which she is much larger too. While a Pure Pikachu is a little over a foot tall, Ioan Pikachus can be more than four feet tall! Their bodies take on more of a semi-anthropomorphic stance as well, meaning that their Attack and Defense stats are raised, but their Special Attack and Special Defense are lowered. Their Speed or Health might be higher too, although those weaknesses can be taken care of through training. Her moves include:
⚪️ Round
⚙️ Iron Tail
⚡️ Thunderbolt
💖 Draining Kiss
This combination of moves means that she is not a very good fighter, and requires some more training to be able to make up for her lacking Special Attack.
I may have left out a couple of details (as I am trying to write all of this before going to work and I'm trying to rush) so in case I do, I will add them. Thank you so much for looking and reading! See you next time!
