What's this??? An original character???
Yes, in stark contrast to all of my other characters, this one is completely new, and the whole thing started from a random moment from a roleplay session involving my friends, SDragon01 (https://www.deviantart.com/sdragon01) and LilArrin (https://www.deviantart.com/lilarrin). Admittedly the idea didn't strike me at first, but what came out of it later completely changed my opinion and is one of my favorite characters of the Zergling's (he has been unable to show him off yet).
However, all that appreciation for his character led him to surprise me on my 23rd birthday with artwork of this guy, but I wanted to draw him myself before officially showing him off. I referenced his art while drawing him and it came out pretty good, although I didn't quite like how the face came out, as well as the legs, I tried to do something more detailed but it wound up looking kind of awkward to me, so I tried to keep it simple like I have been doing. <s>I also realize I have a bit of an obsession with rainbows because here's another instance of a rainbow on his hat and the palette for it took the most time when creating the reference.</s>
On the planetoid Ioa, all sorts of creatures exist from all corners of the universe. Most of them come from the nearby Mushroom Planet, but other creatures live there too, such as Pokémon or Mobians or Armarons. The largest group on Ioan belongs to members of the Animal Kingdom - which is actually the largest nation on the planetoid and despite it having an actual name, the Civilization of the Paw, many still call it this name - and come in a few distinctions. Animals are very common across Ioa, and unfortunately are the center of an ongoing civil rights scuffle within the Light Kingdom.
Behind the scenes however, there were reports of a laboratory bringing in vast numbers of cows, leading his Majesty the First, Kye and his team to investigate. Upon raiding the laboratory, it was quickly discovered that the operation was a somewhat successful yet forcibly halted plan on lesser animals to use other samples of DNA on them in order to produce what are known as advanced creatures. It's unknown if these farm animals were from Ioa or imported for testing. This also revealed the reasoning why cows were brought in in such high quantities: they were done to make them more intelligent and to extend their life spans, but only one in the laboratory survived the testing, who now lives with the Royal Family, under the care of Kyle.
Later, another lab was discovered to have gotten the test results of the first one, and were using that to test pigs, this time to try and improve their bodies when it comes to slaughtering them for food, which unlike the human world, is extremely illegal in the Light Kingdom. It didn't take long for this laboratory to be raided and scoured for information. Multiple arrests were made in both cases.
Not as many pigs died as a result of failed or botched testing, but one was successful and was discovered to have more samples of DNA than the surviving cow that came before, who also went home with the Royal Family and is now under the care of Kyle too.
Confused, the pig, like the cow, doesn't have any memories prior to their testing, only that they started to realize the place they were in was not very friendly, so he was scared being around strangers as he tried to make sense of where he was, and who he was too. It was later discovered that the pig's brain was able to become readily familiar with things around him thanks to the samples he had taken in, but he was unable to process who he was in a mirror, thinking he was one of the samples instead of himself.
Kyle would take care of him and the cow together, who were given names to help identify them outside of their lab logs. The cow was known as Moo-Moo "Cookie" Doyle, or Tag #23, the pig was Oink-Oink "Hoagie" Doyle, or Tag #8. Both of them became best friends due to the similar circumstances that they were involved in, even though both of them don't really know anything about them yet.
Oink-Oink is a young pig, around 11 years old in human years. He is a curious boy who loves the outdoors, music, video games, and his family - especially Kyle and Moo-Moo - among other things. He also really loves to dance and play with toys, and often tries getting Moo-Moo out of dangerous situations.
Because of his affection towards Kyle and Moo-Moo, he often likes trying out things that they do, either charged by the samples of DNA he has, or by general curiosity and interest. For example, this is partially how Oink-Oink started playing video games and has more of a casual taste for them, so he's likely to want to play Nintendo games. He also likes watching him draw, and there are even moments where he gets right next to Kyle with his own drawing pad and joins him when the Yoshi sketches.
One of Oink-Oink's most notable quirks involves his voice, in which he naturally tries to oink or snort while talking. So when asking about what species Kyle is, he won't say "Yoshi;" he'll say "Yoinki."
Oink-Oink is perhaps one of my most fond characters, not only from who he was born from, but also because he's one of my favorite animal species, and was the representative that year based on the Chinese calendar. In other words, I was born in the Year of the Pig, and I love simple pink piggies like this guy, he's so special to me and I again thank LilArrin for making him for me! 💕
Thank you again for looking and reading!
