Charging out of the Ruin (by Solaris91)
YCH from the talented
Solaris91!
How long had I spent in the ancient ruin? Hours? Days? Time held little meaning down in the darkness where the sun cannot reach. What troubled me most was how little resistance I had met down there. There were clear signs of the demon's presence - candles lit by unnatural purple and black flames, withered hearts discarded upon the ground, and scattered bladed implements, too unwieldy to be weapons, but too savage to be mere craftsman's tools. And yet, despite these, the actual creature was nowhere to be seen. Was I already too late? Had I spent too long in the depths of the dungeon, and the demon was already out ravaging the land?
Then, light. Light, and sound, like a low, ominous buzz. I drew my sword and crept towards the archway at the end of the tunnel. The sound grew louder, more distinct - many voices, a droning chant. With my eyes adjusted to the sudden flood of light, I peeked out the doorway and into the courtyard of the ancient ruin. A circle of dark-robed figures stood, their hands raised and crackling with energy, as the ground between them begun to glow. So I wasn't too late. The demon had not yet been summoned. But it would be soon - and I had little confidence I could stop it once it was. There was only one option left to me. I interrupted the chant with a furious roar, raised my sword, and charged.
