The SS Mensajeros was a Pastores-class stores ship, built for the United Fruit Company in Belfast in 1918. When war broke out again in 1941, she was pulled into merchant service to supply Allied Europe with valuable cargo. On 10 March, 1942, she was struck in the stern by a torpedo fired from U-124 off the coast of Cape Lookout, North Carolina. Initially remaining afloat, she tried to make her way to the beach, but ultimately sank several miles from shore. Since she went down slowly, only 11 crewmen lost their lives from the initial torpedo strike.
As the decades wore on, her wreck became a habitat for fish and marine life, and now and then, visitors from above the surface would explore her remains and interact with her residents. In this case, two dinosaurs, a raptor and her fiancee, a spinosaur. They were respectful enough to the wreck and its inhabitants, and a few of the more curious ones followed along in their swim.
Lex and Marcus went out to the Menzajeros often; it was an easy dive to access and in relatively shallow water. She's in especially good shape as she sits in relatively protected waters between capes. They're keeping an eye on the marine life, as always; if they're sand tiger sharks, they're friendly and could be worth a photo! If they're regular tiger sharks... well, both sides will hopefully respect each other from a distance.
