After finishing the painting, they let it dry and then they took it to a room with other pokemon in paint, at least the small lurantis was not the first to be converted, but it will not be the last.
There must be a lot of trainers doing this to those pokemon that were inside their pokeballs, maybe some will come back or others will only stay for eternity within those paints.
