Redrawing a scene of Eugene the Jeep from a 1935(?) vintage Thimble Theatre story, as running on Comics Kingdom. The Jeep is a mystical four-dimensional dog-like creature from Africa and is not at all a coati, even though he's got a long and flexible snout, and a long tail held upright, and reasonable comfort going on two and four legs, and a tendency toward mischief and mayhem while being strongly food-motivated. There's nothing coati-like about this critter.
Elzie Segar used much lighter shading than Walt Kelly ever did. Also he's not even remotely trying to make things like toes and fingers look realistic and that's quite the break after so many months of nearly solid Walt Kelly impersonation.
