Last year I was finding them like that and there were some big toads hanging around that tree the Cicadas love to do their thing on. After a couple of feeding sessions, the toads were basically waiting for me to feed them fat, tasty Cicadas.
They are rather interesting insects, just damn noisy - except when they are still soft shell like in that pic. Colors darken as the shell hardens. Love that blue green shade they have for a few hours.

One of the 17 year Cicadas. I first saw those during Kindergarden in 1969 in Maryland. 17 years later I was in college, watching some tv news and there was a report about those things swarming - I did a double take and went damn... been that long. Add another 17 years and the bugs were in the news again. I was a brat with those Cicadas in Kindergarden - put them under the record player - teacher thought it was shorting out when she tried to play a record and the bugs started making noise. Put some in her desk and purse too....
Ha! I'm with Vixy, you WERE a little stinker.
Yeah, this was the 1966 batch in Cleveland, so I woulda been four at the time.
Fun buggies. Make good spider chow, too. https://www.furaffinity.net/view/6654769/

Oh that is a nice one. Reminds me of Michelle - work pet Black Widow when I headed Security at the Mall in Prescott AZ. Michelle lived in one electrical room for over 3 years. Ate lots of roaches and assorted bugs I tossed her. Fed her one large Rhino Beetle - she was so full I could shine my tac light thru her - looked like a grape with legs. I'd take new guards in to meet her - amazing how big tough guys would scream over a little spider...
