Chapter 1. The Beginning
Vecransyh, a boy of 16, wearing a black shirt, jeans, sweat-jacket and converse stands in front of a large building with his hands in his pockets tapping his foot impatiently. Behind him is a set of train tracks and a department store. His only Pokemon, a Drifloon, hovers carelessly by his spiky, dark brown hair, “God, come on… I’ve been standing out here for thirty minutes!” The building in front of Vecransyh is none other then the Pokemon gym of Goldenrod city and as if responding to Vecransyh’s words the doors slide open and another boy of 16, Kazamaru, walks out wearing a long, blue, trench-coat complemented by his spiky blonde hair,
“Ha-ha! The plain badge is mine!” Vecransyh looks at the small white square presented to him by his friend looking fairly unimpressed by the object,
“It doesn’t look all that special to me Kaza.” Kazamaru responds with a smirk,
“Says the guy with only one badge.” Vecransyh, hearing this, looks down to the side sliding his hands into his pockets,
“I’m doing my best…” Kazamaru puts his hand on his friend’s shoulder,
“Don’t worry about it. More Pokemon means more badges and since you only have the one it’s difficult for you.” Vecransyh looks over at the purple balloon Pokemon and sighs,
“I know that but… I only want ghost type Pokemon.” Kazamaru waves his hand in front of Vecransyh’s face,
“Right, right, well we haven’t really found any yet and you got that thing as your starter.” Vecransyh glares at him,
“He’s not a thing he’s my friend!” Kazamaru shrugs ignoring his words,
“I’m just saying that you need more Pokemon if you want to get anywhere in this world.” Vecransyh’s eye twitches as he glares at Kazamaru,
“So you think I can’t any more badges then the one I have?!” Kazamaru replies in a blunt tone,
“Yeah, pretty much.” Vecransyh suddenly shoves him to the side and walks to the gym doors watching as they open,
“I’m just as strong as you are Kaza… come on, Drifloon.” Walking through the gym doors they close behind him leaving Kazamaru outside,
“Vec…”
The inside of the gym is well lit, as they all are and many flower planters are strewn about the gym except for a large open area in the middle of the huge building’s inside, “Where’s Whitney?!” Vecransyh yells when he sees people all around him. A few moments pass before a girl near the wall walks over to him wearing a tight, white top and a white miniskirt. She leans over to become eye-level with Vecransyh and smiles sweetly showing quite a generous amount of cleavage. She looks him over for a moment before she speaks,
“Hello little boy, would you like to train here?” Drifloon, during this time, puffs up and deflates floating to the ground blushing. Vecransyh can’t help but turn red as he stares down the Gym leader,
“Uhh…”
“Or were you hoping to get a badge from me?” Vecransyh blinks and shakes his head rapidly a few times to clear it and puts on the best serious face he can,
“I’m here to claim a Plain badge from you.” She stands up straight and takes out a pokeball, her gaze turning to his deflated Drifloon and to his belt where a single pokeball sits,
“I’ll tell you what. I’ll take you on in a one on one battle since you only have one Pokemon. How does that sound?” Vecransyh shakes his head at the request,
“No! I don’t want any special treatment. I want you to fight me with all you’ve got.” Whitney grins upon hearing this,
“That’s what I like to hear! I’m not going easy on you kid!” Vecransyh grins as he looks at her,
“I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
A few moments pass and Vecransyh and Whitney are standing across from one another on the gym’s battlefield. Vecransyh’s newly revived Drifloon floats carelessly a few feet ahead of his master waiting for the battle to start. Whitney grins as she takes a pokeball from her belt pressing the small button to make it enlarge, “Well this shouldn’t be difficult at all. You’ve only got that little balloon against my two Pokemon!” At the end of her words her pokeball is thrown out onto the field and opens in a bright flash of light revealing a small pink Pokemon with small fairy wings and relatively large, for its size, ears. Vecransyh looks rather irritated from her words and throws his arm forward as the judge begins the match,
“We’ll show you! Drifloon, use your Gust attack!” Drifloon, in response spins rapidly sending a powerful tornado of wind that sucks the Clefairy into it and spins her around for a bit before dispersing and the fairy Pokemon hits the ground with a thud before leaping back to her feet,
“Double-slap attack!!” Clefairy leaps forward and begins throwing her arms wildly towards Drifloon who simply floats back and forth avoiding all of the potential attacks with ease. Vecransyh chuckles watching his ghost type avoid the normal type’s attacks,
“Hehe, fail.” Whitney’s eye twitches and she yells,
“What the hell?!” She scowls and Vecransyh points forward,
“Finish it off with Payback!” Drifloon glows for a moment before ramming into Clefairy at high speed sending the fairy flying backwards and hitting the wall behind Whitney with a loud thud, “One down.” Whitney stomps her foot glaring at Drifloon’s trainer as she takes out a pokeball and her fainted Clefairy disappears into it,
“You can’t do that!! You can’t beat my Clefairy!!” Vecransyh blinks and scratches the back of his head as he shrugs,
“Uhh… I’m sorry?” Whitney takes her second pokeball from her belt and enlarges it,
“You’re going to be sorry once I defeat that balloon of yours!!” Upon the pokeball’s opening a large pink cow with black designs on it growls and goes into a fighting stance standing on its back legs, “Miltank! Rollout! This will finish you!” Miltank curls into a ball and begins spinning rapidly but doesn’t move and Vecransyh narrows his eyes as he holds out his palm,
“Drifloon, hold your ground and wait for the right moment!” Suddenly Miltank releases from her stationary state and rockets towards Drifloon, “Dodge!” Drifloon floats up a few inches and Miltank rolls right past him and Vecransyh steps out of the way watching the cow Pokemon slam into the wall effectively knocking itself out. Vecransyh looks back to Whitney to see the girl running towards him and she shoves him out of the way running to her Miltank and hugging the fainted Pokemon,
“How can you be so cruel to a Pokemon?!” Vecransyh blinks as he looks at her and raises a finger,
“But… Miltank fainted herself…” Vecransyh takes a step back as the gym leader begins bawling her eyes out. He becomes baffled by the thought of this girl being able to become a gym leader acting like this when she loses… a lap dance was most likely involved because damn that chick’s hot. Vecransyh shakes his head clearing the image from his mind before he feels a small object hit him in the chest and fall into his hand,
“Just take your badge and get out of here!!” Vecransyh goes wide eyed and takes off towards the exit,
“Yes ma’am!” He leaves through the sliding doors and they close behind him as he looks upon Kazamaru who stands in front of him with his arms folded and a smug smirk on his face,
“Well? You got your ass handed to you didn’t you?” Vec slides his hands into his pocket dropping the badge into it before shrugging as Drifloon floats near his head,
“Yeah…” Kaza chuckles letting his arms fall back to his sides before bringing one up and waving a bit in a shooing motion,
“Man! You can’t even beat a Normal type gym leader with a ghost Pokemon! You need to do some serious training dude.” Vecransyh says nothing as he watches Drifloon float around, “Anyway… it’s getting dark. We’d better head to the Pokemon center for tonight.” Vec simply nods following his friend and they heal their Pokemon before heading up to their room.
About an hour later Kazamaru is asleep snoring lightly as he lays on his side and in the bed opposite his is Vecransyh leaned up against the wall with his knees up and his arms lightly laid against them. Drifloon lies on the pillow to his left, softly inflating and deflating as he sleeps. He lets out a short sigh before sliding out of bed and walking to the door exiting the room to go for a walk.
A few minutes of walking later Vecransyh exits through the other side of a transfer building and finds himself in a large park lit by a few lamp-posts that line the edges. He pauses briefly feeling a slightly cold wind accompanied by a presence he feels in his gut,
“Hello…?” He looks around but finds nothing but empty space as he continues to walk through the park and before long enters the middle and sits down leaning against a large Oak tree in the center of the park. He smiles lightly looking up at the moon, “It’s clear out tonight.” There is a soft, female voice around him,
(“Yes, it’s nice…”) Vecransyh jumps and looks around startled, his eyes darting back and forth,
“Who said that?!” The same voice replies to his question,
(“I did.”) The voice sounds more like it’s being spoken directly into his mind rather then from something around him. Vecransyh calms down slightly as he takes a deep breath looking around slower now,
“Where are you?” In response to his words a small purple ghost with a light purple necklace materializes in front of him mere inches from his face,
(“Hi!”) Vec jumps at the sudden appearance and bangs his head against the tree trunk behind him groaning a bit as he rubs where his head hit it,
“You’re… a Misdreavus.” She smiles and backs away a few inches,
(“And you’re a Pokemon trainer if I’m not mistaken.”) Vecransyh blinks seeing her mouth not move as she speaks to him,
“How are you speaking?”
(“Well I can’t speak English so I’m not really sure how you can understand me.”) Vecransyh brings a hand to his chin,
“Then my gift really is real…” The ghostly Pokemon tilts her head slightly in response,
(“Gift?”) Vecransyh looks back to her smiling a bit as his hand drops back to his side,
“I can understand ghosts when they talk but only ghosts… when I found that out I wanted to become the best ghost trainer I could be.”
(“Then I suppose I qualify.”) Vec nods in response,
“Well I suppose so. If you want you can come along with me on my adventure. Want to?” Vecransyh takes his eyes off her for a moment and his hand goes to his bag and a moment later he brings out a pokeball looking back up only to find empty air. Vecransyh sighs and lowers his head but then blinks as he finds the ghost Pokemon sleeping peacefully in his lap. He smiles to himself and taps her with the ball causing her to disappear inside and be registered as caught instantly. He releases her from it a moment later and stands up with her cradled in his arms as he walks back to the Pokemon center
The next morning Kazamaru yawns as he opens his eyes and he suddenly freezes turning white pulling the blankets over himself,
“Shit!!”
(“So who’s your friend?”) Vecransyh smiles from the Pokemon food bowls as the Pokemon eat,
“That’s Kazamaru. He’s the one with all these guys.” Vecransyh points to Kazamaru’s Graveler, Larion and Rhyhorn who are all eating and Drifloon floats around the room slowly. Kazamaru removes the blanket and sits up and looks over to Vec,
“You can… understand that thing?” Misdreavus glares at him and begins yelling in her native tongue making him cover himself with the blanket again, “Whoa! What’s it saying?!” Vecransyh rolls his eyes as he sits back on his bed,
“I wouldn’t call her a ‘thing’ again. As to what she’s saying…? Well… some things are better left unsaid.” Vecransyh laughs as Misdreavus floats over to her own bowl of food and begins eating. Kazamaru removes the blanket again and looks at her,
“So… where did you get a Misdreavus? You didn’t have one yesterday.”
“Umm… Well, I was walking in the park last night and she appeared to me. We talked for a bit and she became my new friend.” Kazamaru tilts his head a bit,
“So you can talk to Pokemon?” Vec shakes his head and looks up at Drifloon,
“It’s limited to ghosts… Drifloon has a pretty limited vocabulary though since he’s pretty much just a spirit inhabiting a balloon.” A bit later Kazamaru and Vecransyh have returned all of their Pokemon to their pokeballs and Vecransyh looks over to Kazamaru as he puts his backpack on, “Hey Kaza, wanna go to Kanto?” Kazamaru blinks as he looks at him,
“Why…?” Vecransyh shrugs,
“I want a Gastly. It’s not that long of a walk from Vermilion.” Kazamaru tilts his head,
“I thought the train station was in Saffron City.” Vec nods,
“They added a stop so that it goes to Vermilion city also.” Kazamaru shrugs,
“Okay. I might as well get some Kanto badges to add to my collection.”
A few minutes later the two of them board the trail headed towards Vermilion city. A boy watching the two of them in the shadows of a nearby building turns flipping his cape before leaping onto his Arcanine and the dog Pokemon begins running side by side with the train. He lays down flat becoming invisible against the furry Pokemon. Vecransyh looks out the window as the bullet train rockets through the Johto region and he blinks watching the Arcanine running,
“Dang, that thing is fast!” Kazamaru follows Vecransyh’s gaze and nods as he sees the Arcanine,
“Yep, Arcanine is one of the fastest Pokemon in the world.” About an hour passes before the train pulls into Vermilion station. The doors open along with the sound of air pressure releasing and the two boys step into the bright sunlight of the sea-side town, “Here we are! Vermilion city!” He looks around for a moment before spying a large building off to the left of them and holds up a finger, “Back in a minute.” Without giving Vecransyh time to respond Kazamaru walks off.
Exactly one minute later Kazamaru walks back over holding a Thunderbadge in his hand and smiles sliding it into his pocket. Vecransyh simply stares at him in disbelief,
“That was fast!” Kaza chuckles in response,
“Dude, he had electric Pokemon.”
“Fair enough.” The two trainers are soon walking through a largely grassed area filled with many trainers of varying levels. They battle their way through them and after about an hour they reach the transfer building to the route they need to take. Kazamaru laughs as his Graveler returns to his ball and he folds his arms looking back to Vecransyh,
“Wow… all of those trainers were weak. I still had to do most of the work though. At least your Pokemon got some much-needed experience.” Vecransyh’s Drifloon lays deflated on his shoulder and Misdreavus floats near him scowling at Kazamaru,
(“Superiority complex much?”) Vecransyh chuckles as he nods to her,
“You got that right.” Kazamaru blinks,
“What did she say…?” Vecransyh chuckles and shakes his head,
“Nothing.” The two trainers head to a long dock that stretches both North and South up the East coast. They both head north till they reach the end of the docks and reach Lavender Town,
“So what are you going to do? Just walk in and catch one?” Vecransyh grins,
“Of course! I’ve got these two to back me up after all.” Misdreavus rubs against him and Drifloon puffs up. The two of them look up at the tower casting a dark shadow over the town and Kazamaru looks around before he waves walking away,
“No gym here. Just get your Gastly so we can go.” He enters the Pokemon center and the doors close behind him,
“Uhh… okay then.” Vecransyh walks to the tower and enters breathing in the musty air as he climbs a set of stairs and goes up a few more floors as he wanders through the mist, “It’s pretty cold in here…” Misdreavus floats near him as Drifloon floats randomly around the room,
(“This place is so nice. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.”)
“Heh, I guess this is a pretty good habitat for ghosts…” Vec looks around as he climbs the staircase to the top floor, “Sooo… where are all the ghosts?” He walks up the last few stairs and looks around the long hallway, “It’s like they’re all--”
“BLAAAAHGWEHHHHMAAAH!!!!!” Vecransyh looks over his shoulder into the face of a Gastly sticking its tongue out and looking at him with angry-looking eyes. Vec simply raises an eyebrow looking into the gas ball’s eyes,
“Hi?” The Gastly pauses as it stares at him speaking into his mind with a male voice,
(“You weren’t scared?”) Misdreavus floats over to him and giggles,
(“Neither of us was. You see, a loud yell or scream can work on occasion but it’s better to make some sort of contact with the victim before the scream like the feeling of a hand on their shoulder or something of that nature. But ya know, there’s more to life then scaring people. Like being trained by one and being their friend.”) The Gastly ponders this for a moment as he looks down,
(“Will there be shenanigans?”)
(“Isn’t that a little immature?”)
(“It’s kinda my thing.”)
(“Thing?”)
(“Being a ghost: tricking and scaring.”)
(“I don’t play into the stereotypes of ghosts.”)
(“That’s just because you’re a girl.”) Misdreavus’ eyes narrow as she growls,
(“You think I don’t do tricks because I’m a girl?!”)
(“Indeed, and if you didn’t play into stereotypes you, being a girl, would, in fact, perform shenanigans.”) Misdreavus simply stops talking finding herself at a loss for words, (“And on that note I will be joining your team as long as I can stay in my pokeball until such time as it is night time.”) Vecransyh grins and takes out a pokeball holding it out,
“Your terms are accepted my good Pokemon.” Gastly disappears inside the pokeball and Vecransyh places it onto his belt before he turns and grins at Misdreavus before he heads back to the staircase returning Drifloon back to his ball. He walks down floor after floor until he exits the tower taking in a deep breath of the fresh air and walks into the Pokemon center returning Misdreavus to her ball and placing the three on a tray to give to Nurse Joy. She takes them to the back to be healed and Vecransyh walks to the wall and sits down on a bench poking Kazamaru to wake him up. The blonde boy sits up rubbing his eyes with a yawn,
“You get a Gastly?” Vec nods with a grin,
“Yep.”
“Glad you’re taking my advice and getting more Pokemon. But ya know, you’re a long way away from being as good as me.” A boy wearing a blue coat and fedora that arches in the back into spikes. His long silver hair and cloak float behind him as he walks up to the counter placing two pokeballs into a tray. A girl accompanies him, a bit shorter then him with brown hair that curls over her ears and arches up on top of her head like ears. She wears a white skirt and a green short-sleeved shirt. The nurse walks away with his Pokemon and the two of them walk over to a bench opposite the one Kazamaru and Vecransyh sit on and they begin walking amongst each other. Vecransyh tilts his head as he watches them intently,
“Who’s that guy?” Kazamaru shrugs,
“I have no idea but… that girl is kinda cute.” Vecransyh raises an eyebrow as he looks back to his friend,
“Number one: she’s out of your league. Number two: She’s with a guy with an epic hat. You don’t mess with a guy with an epic hat.” Kazamaru stands up and give him the shooing motion again,
“Pfft whatever, I’m gonna go talk to her.” Vecransyh leans back and folds his arms as he watches Kazamaru walk over to the two and he smiles to the girl,
“Hi, my name is Kazamaru. Is your name as pretty as your face?” The girl simply stares blankly at him and the boy looks at him raising an eyebrow,
“You have no chance.” Kazamaru turns to him looking angry,
“How do you know?!”
“I’ve been with her for many years. So just leave.” Kazamaru folds his arms and smirks,
“I don’t need to listen to someone whose clothing makes up for their weak Pokemon.” The boy simply stands up and stares at him,
“How about a battle then? Two on two, I’ll show you that there’s someone stronger then you, you overconfident idiot.” He walks over to the counter and takes his Pokemon back from the nurse giving her a nod before placing them on his belt, “Meet me on the other side of the Rock Tunnel. We’ll be waiting.” The girl stands and smiles following him out of the Pokemon center and the doors slide closed behind them. Vecransyh walks over to Kazamaru as they leave,
“Told you.” Kazamaru glares at him,
“Told me what?”
“Don’t mess with people who have epic hats. It will always end in failure.” Kazamaru scowls as Vecransyh gets his Pokemon back from the nurse and they both head outside,
“The Cerulean gym is our next stop anyway so if I have to flatten that guy on the other side of the tunnel that’s just fine.”
“What if you lose?” Kazamaru gives him a confident smirk,
“I’ll get you a dusk stone to evolve your Misdreavus. What if I win?” Vecransyh grins,
“I’ll catch you Regirock.” The two of them shake hands before heading north and leaving the town.
Vec looks at the large, rocky hole in the mountain and into the pitch-blackness of the cave,
“Kinda dark in there…” A voice is heard behind them,
“I’ve got a light.” The two of them turn to see a boy followed by a Charizard. The boy has tatty brown hair; he wears a tank top and shorts, “Hi, the name’s David.” Vec smiles friendlily,
“I’m Vecransyh but call me Vec.” Kazamaru nods,
“I’m Kaza.”
“Well I’m headed to Cerulean to get the Cascade badge. I’m doing the gym in reverse order so it gets easier as I go.” He takes a case out of his pocket and opens it revealing 6 badges all from Kanto. Vec grins,
“Wow, you’re really strong!”
“Your Pokemon reward you with the same strength as you show them. But if you take that power for granted you won’t last very long when you lose the power you think you have. There’s always someone better then you so why worry about it? Just be the best trainer you can be.” Vec grins,
“Yeah!” Kaza looks off to the side of the cave,
“I’m going to be the best.”
“Yo man, we’ve all got our own dreams and if you wanna be the best then you can’t let that dream die but, don’t lose yourself and remember to be a good person.”
“I am a good person.” David gives him a thumb’s up,
“Well then you’re set. Let’s get through this cave!” David marches into the cave followed by his Charizard,
“That guy’s weird…” Vec runs in after him,
“That guy’s awesome!”
“Guh…” Kazamaru walks into the cave. The cave is dry and dusty, and the ground is covered with sharp gravel. The only light that emanates from the pitch-black cave is from David’s Charizard’s tail. It strides happily next to its master, who walks lazily along with the dragon. Vec runs to catch up with David, and begins walking next to him, fascinated by such a free spirit. Vec looks down at the dimly lit ground noticing that David was barefoot,
“Hey, don’t your feet hurt? We’re walking on sharp pointy rocks.” David scratches the back of his head, and shoves his hands back into his pockets,
“Huh. You know I’ve been traveling for a few months now, and I can’t feel the bottoms of my feet anymore.”
“Um…don’t you think that’s…you know, bad?”
“Probably, but as long as I can walk I’m gonna go places.” Kazamaru walks silently behind them, festering in his rage about what that boy had said to him,
“Humph, he thinks he’s so bad ass, wearing that hat, and hanging out with that hot chick, I’ll show him absolute humiliation, and he will beg for mercy, kneeling on the ground, with-“
“Yo, Kaza was it? Pick up the pace man, we’re almost out of this tunnel.” David’s yell breaks his concentration, and he's too angry to begin thinking again. Vec looks back at Kazamaru,
“He got into a fight with this guy at the Pokemon center back in Lavender town and now he’s going to battle him when we get out of this tunnel.”
“How much of a chance do you think he stands?”
“The guy had an epic hat.”
“How epic?”
“It was like a blue cavalier with black trim and these two pointed parts that kinda looked like ears. And he has silver hair.”
“Oh my god.” Vec takes the Pokeballs off of his belt and releases the Pokemon from them. His Drifloon floats around while Gastly and Misdreavus float near him,
“Hey that’s cool man, you like ghosts?”
“Yeah, I can hear what they’re saying so I really wanted to raise some.” David pats Misdreavus on its head and she looks out a soft coo of approval,
“Hey that’s cool man, I love all Pokemon.” Ahead of them is a brightly lit archway showing light into the dimly lit cave. Vec returns his Gastly to his ball as the 6 of them walk into the bright sunlight. Vec looks over to Misdreavus as they walk,
“What’s your opinion on sunlight?” Misdreavus looks at him,
“I like the dark more but sunlight is fine.” Drifloon floats down and lands on Vec’s head. It takes their eyes a moment to adjust to the bright sunlight as they exit the cave. The summer air is crisp and fresh as opposed to the dank musty air of the cave. David takes a long, deep breath as he walks onto the large patch of dirt in front of the cave,
“This is why I became a trainer. You get to go places.” Kazamaru walks out of the cave once again deep in his thoughts. Vec looks over and sees a large orange and black tiger-stripped mound sleeping near a clear stream. Within the center of it is the girl from before,
“Check that out.” Vec points as Kazamaru’s thoughts are broken by his words. Near the mound of fluffy goodness is a small fire pit with a small fire in it. A few fish cook over a spit as the boy sits near them with his jacket draped over his shoulder. He looks up and waves. Vecransyh and David walk over to him along with the glaring Kazamaru,
“Hey, I was thinking that we might’ve got off on the wrong foot. I’m Drake.” Vec smiles and sits down next to the fire and David does the same. Kazamaru stands with his arms folded. Vec looks up at Kazamaru and grins,
“Epic name as well.” Kazamaru scowls,
“Shut up.” Vec turns back to Drake,
“I’m Vecransyh but people call me Vec.”
“Hey, I’m David.” Drake nods and smiles to them,
“Nice to meet both of you.” Drake looks up at Kazamaru. “And what might your name be?”
“Shove it. Let’s just get this battle over with so I can get my badge.”
“Why don’t we have some lunch before our little battle?” Kazamaru tries to hide it but his stomach growls, “I thought so.” Drake stands and walks over to the girl out of hearing distance. Kazamaru sits down next to the fire and looks at the fish,
“1…2…3…4…5. It’s like he knew that there was going to be 5 of us.” David grins, “It’s always good to have extra so you’re prepared for unexpected visitors like me.” A moment later Drake and the girl walk back over to the fire and sit side by side. The girl holds a small case with a black and blue striped egg inside of it. Drake hands each person a skewer with a fish on it except for the girl whose fish is put on a plate before it’s passed to her,
“I hope I cooked them right, took me since last we met to catch them. What I could really use is a Pokemon that can fish…” Kazamaru takes a bite out of the fish and looks surprised,
“This is really good!” He coughs, “But that doesn’t mean I like you.”
“But of course, preparing food simply makes me a good host Shove.” Vecransyh notices the egg as he glances over at it,
“Cool egg.” Drake grins,
“We found that about a week ago washed up on the beach back in Johto.” Vecransyh starts eating contented from the answer about the egg. Kazamaru looks at the egg,
“So what’s in it?” Drake shrugs,
“I guess I’ll find out when it hatches Shove.” Kazamaru becomes irritated,
"My name is Kazamaru!" Drake smiles slyly,
"I'm sorry I thought you said your name was Shove It." A few minutes later everyone has finished eating. Drake stands up, “Well that was delicious. I hope you all enjoyed it.” Kazamaru gets up and dusts off his pants,
“We’re going to battle now right?” Drake fixes his hat as he grins,
“Yes, yes just let me wake up this big guy.” He turns toward the lump of fur, “Arcanine!” All at once the Arcanine stands and sits tilting his head. Kazamaru walks a good distance away and takes out two Pokeballs turning around,
“You said 2 on 2.” Drake takes a ball off of his belt and holds it,
“I did, didn’t I?” Kazamaru throws the Pokeballs and in a flash of light Graveler and Larion are standing in front of him looking angry and ready to fight. Drake’s Arcanine stands across from the other two growling. Drake throws the ball in his hand releasing a Swampert in front of him. David stands between them off to the side,
“This battle’s competitors are Kazamaru and Drake. Let the battle begin!” Kazamaru shouts at his Pokemon,
“Both of you dig now!” Drake grins,
“Arcanine, Extremespeed.” Graveler escapes underground as Larion is head butted and knocked back into the mountain wall of the rock tunnel leaving a large dent, “Swampert, Surf.” The Swampert takes a big breathe and releases a tidal wave of water in Kazamaru’s direction, most of which goes down the hole that Graveler made. There is a silence and a light gust of wind and Graveler does not resurface. Kazamaru reluctantly takes out his Pokeballs and returns his fainted Pokemon.
“The battle is over leaving Drake the winner.” Drake returns his two Pokemon to their Pokeballs and walks over to Kazamaru holding out his hand,
“Your Pokemon are strong but your overconfidence made you overlook planning your moves.” Kazamaru scowls and slaps his hand away,
“Are we done here?” Drake returns his hand back to his side,
“Yes.”
“Good.” Drake walks over to Vec and pats his Misdreavus on the head,
“The ability to talk to Pokemon… pretty cool isn’t it? You have a good heart so I know that your Pokemon are going to treat you with love.” Vec nods,
“Thank you… I have to know. Just how strong are you?” Drake smiles at the question,
“Let’s just say I’m heading to the Ultima league soon.”
“What’s that? I thought there was just a Pokemon league in each region.”
“Very few have heard of it. The Ultima league is where trainers go when they have acquired a secret badge from each region. The badges are usually only given out to the first place winners of tournaments but other places can sometimes get them.” Vec looks shocked,
“So that means--”
“I still have here and Sinnoh so since you guys are gonna be in Kanto for a while there’s a good chance I’ll see you guys again.” He walks over to the girl and starts to talk with her. Vec walks over to Kazamaru and David, who’s trying to comfort him,
“So I believe the bet was 1 dusk stone.” Kazamaru glares at him,
“Yeah, yeah, let’s go to the gym.”
