An ongoing slice-of-life styled series of Zep's life.

With the threat removed, Zephyrius was now free to inspect the seals that held shut the doors to the Wayshrine. As he approached the towering doors he found that almost all the enchantments had been worn off by Caster with only one last physical seal holding the doors in place, a narrow slot about three inches wide.
Igniting his armblade once again Zephyrius slid his blade into the key slot and slowly turned counter-clockwise. The tumbles in the lock began to shift, crackles and pops of a time worned mechanism groaned to life as the inner machinations started to spin up. With a dusty old crack, the doors swung open slowly creaking against its hinges. The sliver of light that peeked through the gap slowly grew wider, bathing the jackal in it’s glow.
The doors opened up a view of serenity like a pocket dimension all on its own with waters flowing off the edge into an abyss, and there in the middle of it all sat the Wayshrine; a marvel of transportation.
The Wayshrine of Alexandria, even after all these years it’s good to see it still functional. I had best inform Master of my discovery and Gods willing, they’ll send a detachment to secure this place.
The Wayshrine of Alexandria was one of the earliest interplanal gateway complexes built to facilitate rapid transport between the port and the Empire’s capital at Memphis, since the development of highways and other gates further into the Empire it was decided that the Wayshrine at Alexandria would prove to be too much of a lucrative target for any foreign Kingdom looking to get a direct passage to Memphis and hence the Wayshrine was shut down and sealed away, until now.
Time to head home and deliver my report
Zephyrius reignited the Wayshrine’s large Hekka focusing crystals as they started to glow. The hieroglyphic pillars began to glow a soft golden hue as the focusing crystals lined up and shone their beams of light at the centre point of the circle.
And the Waygate is complete. I should quickly cross it and shut down the gate on the other side.
Stepping into the light, the stones flared in their intensity, blinding the area in it’s white glow and in an instant the Jackal vanished.
Report?
The Lioness called out from behind her desk as she pours through papyrus strewn about her desk.
Yes General, the seals protecting the Wayshrine of Alexandria were almost breached completely by Caster that bore the mark of the secretive underground group called Penumbra, upon unsealing the gate the Wayshrine was found to be intact and operational. I humbly recommend sending a fresh detachment of soldiers to garrison the Wayshrine or to completely dismantle it.
Hmm… garrison or destroy... While the authority for the dismantling of Wayshrines rests with the Council, I can however within my power order a detachment to be sent out. And the news of… Penumbra is disturbing to say the least, I must take this piece of information to the Pharaoh.
Bypassing the Council?
Yes, those bureaucrats and their never ending discussions they’d sooner die than come to a decision.
Right
And as for you, you took too long to come back so cake’s gone but there’s still the matter of your reward~
Oh? And praytell General, what are you rewarding me with?
That, my pet, is for you to find out tonight
Kyrie grinned.
