I have a great book called "Spitfires over Israel" that has all the memoirs of pilots from the 1948 arab-israeli war. Both sides have Spitfire V's - and both were painted in British desert colours. Mosdt confusing dogfights in history!
Much revilement for the Czech "Avia"re-engined Messerschmitts.
apparently the Italian '205 'Veltros' were the real prize. The pilots of those ones kept them a bit of a secret. Then the other pilots discovered that the Italian aircraft had all been 'detailed' by Italian sports car designers, complerte with comfy leather seats, glossy panelling and even a complimentary silk scarf in a glove compartment!
