You may get down on your knees and adore him now. ;)
Digital coloring on original inks, cel shading and all that fun stuff.
There will probably be more of Proteus quite soon. I hope you like.

Many thanks, dearest coon. As to the goggles? I'm going to print here the same answer I gave Sedric with that very same question:
Your astute observations are fantastic to me and you picked out something that no one else has! Bravo! Those "Swimming Goggles" are an amusing twist, dear dragon, for Proteus can walk on land and live in air for a time...but to see, he needs goggles to compensate his vision in a world that has no water and too much light! Yeeehaww! Most excellent of you.
"I think the goggles will be the best part of him, since they seem to raise the most questions." Here's a story for you to write, Moot. ;)

Oh my, such good questions! I will attempt to answer as completely as I can. He's still a formative creation so some aspects are still not solid on him yet.
He has four clawed toes on each foot with webbing in between each. Very much a beast footed creature, the webbing of course to help propel him underwater. I actually want his foot to expand at the toes when he's underwater, kinda like the Creature of the Black Lagoon....but I have yet to draw him underwater swimming. Heh, I've gotta get around to that quite soon, since he's a fish Lord.
He has the main dorsal fin behind his head and down to his buttocks, the fins end at the bottom of his spinal cord and fins on his calves, though really I've been playing with the idea of fins on his forearms because they would aid in getting him around underwater and look pretty cool too. :)
I had designed Proteus to be quite the loner. The back-story has not been created though my vision is that he is nearly the last of a lost race and of royal blood, but a king without a kingdom is really just a paladin in disguise. In this picture he does nearly look bored and blase', but that might just be his natural expression. Proteus is pretty much alone in his world for now...seeking but not really knowing what he's seeking. (Befriending perhaps a human female with an open mind, because he's not a trusting soul at all). Perhaps to find a purpose? Perhaps to gain a lost identity of grandeur of things that can never be again? He was trained as a warrior and did have a mother and father of course, but lost them in a horrible way when he was a younger fishling. //// I have a feeling that Proteus' people were hunted to near extinction after losing an antediluvian battle with an ancient, evil race lost in the mists of time...and that he's still hunted; though he might not know it yet.
Proteus is loosely based on the Permit fish, though not of their coloration of course. Much of him is my "mind's" eye of what a fish Lord should look like.
I'm super pleased that you are taking an interest in Proteus! I think he's so cool...but people seem cold to fish here at the best of times. And of course I haven't drawn him pornographically, so NO one is going to look at him. That's ok though. He's MY hero! Another Anti-Hero superhero, much more hip than Aquaman or Namor ever thought about being. ;)
