This was todays project... a while back the filler piece broke out of the cutting edge of the bucket so today I fixed it.
That edge is over 3/4 of an inch thick 20 odd mm. So to make sure my weld will hold I veed out the ends so I would have deep weld... of you look you can see how the rock gouges out the steel around the hardfacing.

Yup rock can be an unforgiving mistress. One must always be on the lookout and fix the small stuff before it becomes much worse. As my auto teacher in college said fix the small things before they cause much more costly damage.
That truly is some serious wear going on with the hard facing. That is why smart operators and mechanics always reinforce their buckets in this fashion. Nice work btw. You do some cool stuff.
