D&D - Jazz the Bugbear
Name: Jazz
Gender: Male
Race: Bugbear
Class: Monk: Way of 4 Elements
Backstory:
From a young age Jolax was different than others of his tribe; rather than training for war and brutal combat he preferred to live a slow and peaceful life, taking time to explore his native lands and weave flowercrowns from the native flora. One day his elders grew tired of his lackadaisy attitude and forced him along on an attack, hoping to have him "man up" and start living as they saw fit. Their attack was set on a Firbolg wizard who had made himself at home as a hermit in a tower hidden within the forest. Their plan failed however as their troope was discovered, and the wizard struck back. Jolax, terrified at the confrontation, ran away and hid in the underbrush, watching in horror as the wizard easily wiped out everyone he once knew.
The wizard then set his sights on Jolax, but stopped before he laid the final blow. He could sense something different in the young Bugbear, something that set him apart from the rest of his kind, not just in mind but in spirit. The wizard gave Jolax a choice: to return to his home as a failure to his kind, or to stay and become his apprentice. Jolax was hesitant but agreed, and thus was unofficially declared dead to the world, and reborn under his new name, "Jazz", named so for his affiliation for the genre when listening to his new masters records.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Jazz was encouraged by his master to reject many of the "evils" of the Bugbear society, and to reject feelings of greed, envy, and pride, and to embrace charity, humbleness, and honesty. Though despite his teachings Jazz has a tenancy to revert back to his old ways, hoarding many items that he deems to be precious to his quest for knowledge (spellbooks, precious artifacts, alchemic regents, etc). Jazz naturally has little inclination to fight, and though in his older age has grown more bold and brave in areas of confrontation, would still rather talk things out and make a friend rather than an enemy. He has a bit of a short fuse, and if he's pushed too far will easily snap at his enemy and lash out with his fists before he can tame his temper.
