Filbert babbles happily, holding the apple out... While he likes to eat apples, he prefers them to be in more manageable chunks, easier for his little hands to handle and his little mouth to bite.
Come to think of it, a whole apple would be difficult for him to manage, although he does look cute holding it--perhaps it's part of his "routine", when he wants an apple, to bring it to an adult to have it cut into sections for him. He's about two years old, maybe a month or two over two, so he can handle feeding himself well enough--with a bit of supervision, of course.
I'm not sure how he feels about the skins, though, but he probably doesn't mind them.
