I was digging through a bag and found this. This is one of the last paintings I did before I got sober.
Though I've never been suicidal, this self portrait gives a brief glimpse into my emotional state at the time. With a dark and semi-transparent complexion and a position outside the frame I was trying to express the dissociative mindset I was experiencing at the time, along with the broken heart, which describes my emotional state. Although I knew how i felt, I couldn't express my feelings through words, hence the very general quote in the balloon. I had this piece on a tiny easel on my bureau in plain view. Being on open display and also the minuscule size of the canvas shows how I would display my emotions for all to see, but in a way that you would only know if you knew what you were looking for.
Does that make sense?
4"X4" Acrylic, aluminum powder, and modeling paste on canvas.
