Put on some Dragonforce and get ready for one of the Top 10 Greatest Anime Battles of All Time.
A skilled swordsman and possessing powerful combat magic capabilities, Silverlance is one of the greatest heroes Demeter has ever known. A real-life superhero, the stuff of legends, a true alpha male, rivaled only by Dominic Wolff in terms of "yeah, that happened" stories being told about his exploits.
Actually, I've yet to draw him in combat at all. Whether he'd be up against an army of soldiers (medieval or modern), some giant monster, an alien threat, a horde of zombies, or maybe even some sort of Humongous Mecha, he's ready for just about anything!...Except for his vaccinations. Silverlance deals with all manner of piercing and cutting weapons being turned against him and barely bats an eye, but is deathly afraid of syringes. Who knew?
He is one of those characters who I really like, but just can't seem to draw in a way that satisfies me. Looking back at all my previous art of him, there's always a detail that seems off or some proportions that look weird. This is probably due in no small part to chubby, cute characters being my strong suit, while Silverlance is more muscular and generally "strong" in his features. This time, I decided to improve his armor a bit, and even designed a helmet for him, which in itself was a bit of a struggle... It took until 2018, but I think I'm finally satisfied with one of my pictures of the legendary hero, Silverlance.

Oh, well that's actually pretty simple.
I've always loved two theams growing up:
Fantasy set in ancient times.
and
especially futuristic Sci-fi !
I love them both so much, throw in an ALL Anthropomorphic cast of characters and I'm immediately interested...err...as long as its not: horror, very violent, or scary, then either then that I will be satisfied.
Anyway, Silverlance is basically my favorite type of character:
Stoic, calm, strict, trained, disciplined, strong and a very capable fighter.
Some say: "Serious characters are boring." I say *FLUFF* that unoriginal opinion! I like the characters who don't mess around. The characters who get stuff done!
example:
(Dynasty Warriors)
Lu Bu a power hungry tyrant who was a violent psycho. Was finally captured after a hard-fought battle.
Liu Bei was sort of like: He has no home, we can't turn our backs on him.
My man Cao Cao, he just got up and straight up kills the b%stered.
Cao Cao: One cannot change the world with words alone. You'd do well to remember that.
Silverlance is a character who's a warrior and is there to do his job. I love the dedicated serious characters the most. I like Silverlance the moment I saw him! Thunderlace is a perfect counter to his cousin because how there are almost nothing alike.
(Sorry if I worded this poorly, Insomnia has keep me up for almost 2 day in a row...ugh...so sleeply.)

Nice! I was surprised to see that you like him because he's serious! Most of my audience is here for the clowns.
I suppose the idea that Silverlance exists in modern times, and dresses like this and fights like a knight, makes him interesting as well--he's something of a superhero so he can definitely get away with it, and while he dislikes firearms, he's actually quite competent with modern infantry weapons.
I have been considering drawing him with something more contemporary, like an assault rifle, for a while now.
And then, much like Obi-Wan Kenobi, he'd probably discard it after using it. "So uncivilized..."
I guess that comes down to the sort of threats I'd expect him to encounter--he would mostly be fighting monsters, and singular (or very small bands of) powerful warriors, rather than having to mow down armies of mooks like a lot of my other action hero types would encounter. Not that his armor wouldn't hold up in a firefight long enough for him to cut down a few nameless action-hero cannon-fodder bad guys in most situations, of course... and if all else fails he can just start throwing around energy blasts like he's just stepped out of Dragonball Z or something.
