I've been a StarWars fan for a long time. I just never had the money to do anything with it until recently. Getting custom lightsabers was just getting my foot in the door.
The Incom T65 X-Wing has been my favorite fighter craft, followed closely by the T47 Airspeeder (aka the Snowspeeder featured in the Battle of Hoth). I didn't start thinking about what design I would have if I was a Rebel pilot until recently, but originally I selected a generic white helmet with blue Rebel insignia. Just a basic bucket. I found some videos featuring custom made pilot helmets recently and that's when the gears started turning. What fans came up with were pretty amazing. I wanted something that was still believable in the StarWars universe but still uniquely mine.
I took inspiration from other movie helmets. The medium gray pattern is from Bigg's Red 3 helmet. The blue mohawk top stripe based on a similar two toned stripe from a "Yavin pilot". The "sliced onion" symbol near the cheek is on several helmets as well as the "Rebel wing" decals along the sides of the mohawk (notably on Wedge's Red 2 helmet, Garvin Dreiss' Red Leader helmet, and Wes Jansen's Rogue 3 gunner helmet). The angled darker gray solid line was inspired from Zev Senesca's Rogue 2 helmet (also seen on Luke's Red 5 helmet, Red Leader's helmet, and Gold 5's helmet), as it was a contrast to the curves and bends of the helmet. I went with a blue mohawk end piece because I haven't seen that before, as well as other blue detailing and the blue Rebel wings and blue V (victory) decals along the side.
The overall look of this helmet should be of a moderately experienced pilot that has seen a number of battles and lived to tell the tale, yet not good enough for flight or squadron leader. The intent for this is for references when commissioning artwork for my character and the real helmet when I inevitably get one. Thanks for checking out my design!
Update 7/29: Adjusted Rebel starbird insignia and resized/relocated the victory Vs as per other helmet locations and references.
Update 8/12: Added transparency to the visor lens.
Update 8/17: Added one more pair of Vs, cleaned up some lines, added more blue accents.
