I was lucky to learn it in Tennessee near the foot of the Smokies where you could just pick big chunks of flint and chert off the ground. Haven't done it in decades though, so I'm probably in just the same boat. Did you work purely hard, stone on stone, or did you do refinement with bone or antler soft press?
