Short answer: He's both. He's a cabbit.
Long answer: Alex is a cat and mimiga hybrid (mimigas being a rabbit-like creature from cave story, if you're unfamiliarHis ears are more floppy than a standard rabbit as a result, but overall he's still pretty much a cat/rabbit mix, so while he's technically a 'catiga', calling him a 'cabbit' is still accurate enough.
