Jed's a demigod, where most the people that arrive to his farm are in need breaking one(or more) of the 7 deadly. They're first asked to change their ways and given an opportunity to do so. If they don't make an effort they are forcefully changed to a fitting form to work their way to be come a paragon of society.

As for Wrennie and Jenny, they made a verbal contract with him. So at the end of the summer they will be freed of their obligations to him.

Oh, well of course. I am sorry for not seeing this sooner. ^^
