This pic was a collaboration between

nyomi/MothMonarch who did the colours and background, as part of a donation drive for Campaign Zero, an organization fighting for research-based policy solutions to end police brutality in the US.
There's a bit of a story behind it on top of all that, from my end...
So, a while back I was thinking to myself what kind of animal would be good for a 'Toronto' mascot. I mean, obviously there's the Blue Jay (via the baseball team), and a lot of people would say 'raccoon' because they're everywhere, but they're not particularly Toronto-specific... and finally I decided on 'White Squirrel', because there have been a number of them here, and there's even a road officially named 'White Squirrel Way' not far from downtown. Sure, white squirrels are hardly unique to Toronto either, but...
And we know there have been multiple of them at least in part because some of them have had different coloured eyes...
Then I thought that, well, most of the ones seen here have been in the vicinity of Trinity-Bellwoods park downtown, and 'trinity' means there should be three of them...
Hey, having three of them means I could do a flag pattern easily...
And so, as a result of my mind wandering over topics for a few months, I present to you, the Bellwoods sisters: from left to right, Lucy, Sylvie, and Ally, as they pose for a picture being taken down in the park they're named after.
Lucy's the fun-loving one, always out and all over the place. Sylvie, the only black squirrel of the three, is the more protective one as well as the biggest. And Ally on the right is the shy and quiet one, still occasionally surprised that people are interested in her.
(I can be amazingly unimaginative when it comes to names sometimes. Ally because she has albinism, hence the red eyes; Lucy because she has leucism, another condition that can result in white fur; and Sylvie is named after Sylvain Chomet, the director of the movie 'The Triplets of Belleville', just because it seemed appropriate.)
