Pretty much, yeah. I don't have any scientific basis for it, I just figured it would be a neat way to justify why herbivores of this world cannot digest meat. The plant material would be made of a very different molecular make-up than animals, so basic solutions can dissolve it easily. Animals on the other hand are fairly immune to it, it's just like a very soapy bubble bath.
I assume it's because a lot of people like digestion or same size endo as their main vore fetish. Having something like a small being explore the insides of a large being might not be something that fetish-y or hot to draw too often. It makes for fun stories in general though, so that's probably why it's common in mainstream animation.
