Jump Event #4000
Shadow growls as the grey-black mist dissipates around him, looking around himself to get a sense of his new surroundings. "Where did I end up now…? I had just started to get settled in with my squad but then another Jump happened…" he ended up in a field where he could see wild grass was growing. Looking up to the sky above he could see a jet of some sort ascending further into the sky. "Jets. This must be not long after finding circuitry and efficient engines then. I need to see if I can sneak into a library and look through whatever history text they have… the squad will have to see if they can find me instead of me finding them."
Shadow looks in the direction the jet was flying away from, a city with many multistory buildings glimmering from the sunlight that is reflected off their glass. He starts walking towards the city, his black armored shirt and his dark green tactical pants protecting most of his body from the bugs in the field. It took about 4 hours of walking to head into town, once he saw that the inhabitants of the planet were also anthro species it let him head into the city without as much worry of being immediately viewed as an outsider.
As he made his way he could hear from others around him that this area spoke a dialect of Russian he was familiar with, though the text he saw on signs were a bit different. With a soft sigh he made his way around the city in search of a library or bookstore. Eventually he made his way through the doors of the public library, and then to the section that seemed to have text that was meant for children learning. Beginning with simply books looking over the alphabet he skimmed through them to see the correlation of text to speech. Then he looked through the books that went over the basics of vocabulary to see if it was significantly different from what he remembered about the dialect. Thankfully it was the same, which meant he could now understand the written language of this city and could do more research.
Shadow spent the entirety of that day reading the books that went over the timeline of the country he was in from present to past. He looked over the details of the timeline written in the books so he could understand what differences this timeline had compared to the others he has been in before. The rundown was pretty standard. They had invented electricity, engines, planes, helicopters, had 3 global conflicts after the invention of firearms, discovered and actually disbanded atomic weapons, researching clean energy, developed holographic technologies, and the space tech they currently had was mostly government funded and could only get them to the moon frequently. A few satellites had been launched past the planet's moon, a total of 70 around the other planets in the system and 5 hurtling through space outside the system. 'Okay, so I can't make a starship here without drawing a lot of attention and setting this planet decades or more ahead. So I will have to fit in here, the first step is becoming a citizen.' He thought to himself after finishing one of the last history books they had on the shelves. He then stood from where he was sitting to read, and went to research how this country handles citizenship.
Shadow spent about a week researching the country he was in and was able to pass the citizenship test they had. Eventually he was able to acquire the supplies to make the battle suit he was accustomed to wearing with his ‘Omega Squad’. He made some changes as he knew he would not be using the suit for space anytime soon, so it was now simply a battle armor suit for PMC and Military divisions of the country which he offered to sell to after seeing how easy it was to get the materials for his suit.
After about 25 years on the planet Shadow had become a member of a nation's military, operating as a special operations operative along with a small team. All the hard work to fit in though began to crumble as Cesam arrived on the planet… Shadow knew it was now the time to try and protect the people that lived here and not to fit in.
Cesam landed a spacecraft in a larger faction, the largest one on the planet at that time. In one of the city centers the ship landed, taking out part of a building on it's approach to the ground before landing in the large green-space park in the city. Civilians had been moved back a bit by the few law enforcement that were near the area, and 2 news crews had arrived at the edge of the perimeter the police had made. Cesam lowered a ramp to the ground and stepped out in a set of armor that didn't quite fit him right, and immediately cast out a large wave of energy that was simply for show. The law enforcement turned towards him, frozen still as they were trying to process what they just felt pass by them… Cesam did not give them time. He raised his arms towards the officers and cyan blue bolts of crackling energy fired into a couple of them, bullets of energy penetrating the front plates on their armored vests they wore under their uniform. The couple of officers that were not hit with the energy bullets drew their pistols, equipped with rounds to penetrate standard armors on that planet. The first couple bullets shot wide but the 4th and 5th round from 4 of the officers were headed straight to Cesam, stopped short by the energy shield he put up. The bullets bounce off the shield as if they hit an impervious wall, either ricocheting or falling from the point it had hit and causing the shield to ripple ever so slightly.
Cesam made short work of the officers and started cutting into the crowd of civilians as they fled, easily racking up over 200 innocent people murdered in just a minute of moving through the street. Occasionally he threw out a sphere of flame that exploded once hitting an object, though he was using them to destroy some of the buildings. Some trucks sped towards the city carrying soldiers clad in the standard issue military armor and rifles. The trucks stopped a couple blocks away and unloaded about 40 people, swiftly moving in loose tactical formations and converging on Cesam. The soldiers set up firing positions and begin to open fire from cover made of the fallen pieces of building. As the first few rounds cracked off Cesam turned towards them using his shield ability to block the rounds just as effectively as the law enforcement pistols. He then began to reign down a hail of the energy bolts on them while his shield ability was still active, making them slightly weaker but still doing quite a lot of damage on the ruble and soldiers they hit. About half of the soldiers were hit with the energy bullets and the armor was getting pretty damaged with each round, only taking 3 before failing to protect against any more of them.
Cesam began to sprint to the soldiers in cover, forcing parts of his shield energy towards them and making both debris and soldiers fall backwards a few feet. A couple of the ammo magazines exploded like small hand grenades as the wave of force hit them, piercing the armor and causing the unfortunate few victims to cry out in pain. He then manipulated his shield into a thin ‘blade’ and swung his arm over one of the soldiers that rose to fire, the energy of the shield sliding through the armor and taking off the individual's arm at the forearm. The rifle and remaining portion of his arm fell to the ground as the red blood began to pour from the open amputation site. Mercilessly he moved forward, taking out soldier after soldier with his manipulated shield magic. Within only a few minutes he had dispatched all the soldiers that had arrived…
Shadow barged into one of the offices that held higher ranking officers at the base he was working at, 6 officers getting up swiftly and facing him. The commanding officer for Shadow looked expectantly to him for an explanation. "Forgive my interruption ma'am, Cesam has arrived at earth and he is the one rampaging through the Fardigraz city. I need to go there to stall his progress or he will set all of Fardigraz ablaze. With or without your support ma'am, I am leaving. I would suggest setting up 4 squads of the best men you can find, outfit them with the latest body armor and not overload them with weight." He began to turn to leave, assuming he would be denied what he wished to help. "Vasov, what do you know about this being?" She demanded, surprised at his passion, as before he was rather reserved and followed orders.
"He is a being with more dangerous abilities than I, and I have been fighting him for a long long time. I don't think we can kill him but we need to limit the damage he can do." Shadow states, turning to look at the commander. "If it were up to me I would grab a couple squads of the most trained and drop them over the city for a HALO. But just doing so with me would help, and that is what I plan to do even if you don't send support units." He stood there, glancing over the officers and settling his gaze back on the commander. "Alright Vasov. Take the squad you were assigned to with you, I can't promise anything as far as support or reinforcements." She states and looks to the other officers. "Vasov has served with us for 27 years and has an impeccable profile. I will personally take the hit for sending him, but if he believes there are things we should do with this monster then I believe in his methods." She states, waving Shadow off as she addresses the officers. "Thank you ma'am." Shadow nodded and quickly jogged out of the building to collect his squad and the equipment he could.
In about 20 minutes Shadow had 6 of his squad all fully armed with mid-range rifles and the same armor he 'invented' before he went into the military. They quickly boarded a smaller cargo plane that could handle the speeds and altitude for what they needed, soon lifting off the runway headed for the city Cesam had landed in. The smoke from the fires in the city could be seen about 30 miles from the city as they rapidly approached, each of the team ready to deploy. "Check your gear again, make sure your helmets are sealed proper. We are doing a HALO at 20,000 feet. We will shoot to land at the southern side of the city park and move in from there. Try to stay 4 blocks south, unless we see Cesam further south. Do not fire until all members of the team have been notified. If you can take him by surprise it is your best bet. I am not going to be with the squad, I am going to land slightly closer to where his landing site was. If I can see him while our 'chutes are out I will head towards him. Good luck."
As the others checked their gear again they were moving about 10 miles out, only another 2 minutes before they would jump. Looking closely at what he could see of the city he could still see the bursts from the magic abilities he was using… new buildings shifting a bit and more smoke starting. The time came for them to jump, the rear hatch lowering for them to go. Shadow watched the men leap out before following behind them, and they started falling towards the city. The special parachutes on the back of their armor ready for deployment, the 7 anthro bodies rocketing through the air as they spear themselves down to get down faster. At about 1200 feet they spread eagle to slow their descent before launching their 'chutes at 1000 feet. The 3 parachutes per person fired into the air and spread, causing their bodies to jerk from the sudden air brake they now had, and one of the anthros to black out.
Shadow ends up planting boots about 4 blocks ahead of the squad that dropped with him, he can hear gunfire roaring from farther north along with an explosion. "Sounds like they aren't doing so well." Shadow mumbles softly and begins to run towards the sounds, clicking the safety off on the rifle he had. Rounding a corner he saw 4 tanks smoldering and 6 armored transports either overturned or on fire. About 90 soldiers spread among the rubble of the area, firing at Cesam farther down the street. Another 3 transports arrive, each having a 63 caliber turret on the top which promptly begins to fire in the direction of Cesam. A moment passes before the area was lit with a soft blue as a strange blue beam slams into 2 of the transports, flipping them through the air like a toy while cutting through it's armor.
Shadow turns the corner more and is ready to fire at Cesam, but quickly ducks behind as a blue aura surrounds Cesam. Not a moment after ducking back behind the corner a huge forcewave rolls through the street and shifts all the objects in them back about 20 feet. The force also cracks some of the buildings and causes some debris to fall. All was silent now, the rubble that was thrown likely burying most of the soldiers in the area. Shadow turns the corner and slowly approaches Cesam with the rifle leveled at him.
"Shadow, you finally come. Do you see what happens every time you hide? You cannot hide from me. You will pay for what you have done. Today is that day! Fate will not protect you forever from me." He shouts angrily preparing an attack to meet Shadow, his magic shield making a bubble around him to protect himself.
