I never played Sonic Forces, but from seeing the previews of the game and such I can assume that it had some good things going for it, but it was rushed haphazardly with some bad design choice decisions and overuse of Classic Sonic in a game where he didn't needed to be in. Also, the plot that Eggman finally won and had Sonic captured should've been more of a big deal than it should've been.

I played the game and enjoyed it. Playing it I didn't feel like it was rushed. With Classic Sonic it felt like he had a purpose to help boost Tails' confidence and answered what happened to him at the ending of Mania. I just can't stand all the unnecessary hate it gets with how the fanbase is
I personally wouldn't say it's a bad game, but just felt like it had potential showing but just miss the mark and also as a friend of mines also added, lacked a focus on who it was catering to. Some things I thought it could be improved is for example the backstory of Infinite. It seems bad that you had to read a promo comic that was barely advertised that I know of to learn about Infinite. It felt like a situation where you had to call Sega just to find out how to beat the infamous CNZ "Barrel of Doom". lol
I have to agree with Konanarillah that the game did looked rushed in parts especially with some graphic glitches. But I also heard that they spent most of the development years dedicated to making the Hedgehog Engine 2 and only had 1 year of actual development. So if that's the case, that might explain it.
Other than that, the gimmick of building you own character is obviously a nice nod to Sonic fans. I would put this game in the realm 06 (I didn't think it was all bad especially compared to Boom lol) where the potential is there but it needed more polish. Considering that I played Sonic Mania and felt like it was a renaissance to Sonic on the 2D side of games and it was a lead up story to Forces, I was looking for Forces to be similar spark on the 3D side of games. But for folks who enjoy the game, I can see why there are things to like about the game.
PS: I'm also glad Mania and Forces returned to the tradition and track record of Sonic games usually having good and memorable soundtracks unlike with Boom. XD

To me it looks like the potential was there already but fans didn’t notice right away. Plus with Infinite the prequel comics and Episode Shadow did help out explaining who he was and why he was out for vengeance. Seeing the game it felt like it catered to general fans as the fandom is so toxic that no one can come to a mutual agreement with what they want. It didn’t looked rushed to me, maybe it was but not as bad as Sonic ‘06 was with how glitchy that game was. It might sound controversial but to me the problem with the game is how the fan base is heavily divided with what they want and they probably were still hyped about Mania when it came out. Plus the fans were having high unrealistic expectations of it to be Generations 2 when I saw it as a new Sonic game.
Overall, amazing job with the artwork Bleu. It looks amazing 💙
