And now to start introducing one of the early villains, who later turns to one of the heroes of Pokemon: Synthesis - Reaper the Scyther splice!
Reaper is Takuya's former Pokemon partner from Takuya's human Past. Takuya found Reaper as an egg when he was seven years old, in a tree on the outskirts of New Bark Town. The Pokemon responsible for the egg were nowhere around, and Takuya had been watching the nest for two days. Assuming something happened to the sires of the egg, Takuya took the egg home, and hatched Reaper. He raised the Scyther with genuine love and care, teaching Reaper not only how and when to fight, but also how to enjoy and live a happy life which inspired Takuya to start his journey to be a Pokemon master when he turned 12, and set off with Kasi and Reaper at his side.
Four years into their journey, Takuya and Kasi would meet Avery. After a friendly battle with Avery's Pokemon. a Machamp named Sparta, Takuya and Kasi would invite Avery to join in their journey, which he accepted happily. They would continue on their path to master Pokemon, where they would eventually end up in the Sinnoh Region.
Then came the fateful night that would tear Reaper and Takuya's bond to shreds. After setting up camp in the Eterna Forest, they were ambushed by mercenaries in Team Midnight's employ. Reaper was snatched away from Takuya as soon as he was released from his Pokeball to try and defend his master, all of them knocked out by tranquilizer gas.
After being captured by Team Midnight, Reaper got free of his cage with help from Sparta, along with Kasi's Nidoking, Venin. They would spend the next few hours rampaging through the facility, trying desperately to find their masters. Unfortunately, that hope was shattered completely after their masters underwent DNA Splicing, and Avery ended up leveling the facility in his rage and dispair. Reaper, Venin, and Sparta ended up buried in the rubble, which is how he got the scar over his left eye. Even worse, Reaper managed to catch a view of a post-spliced Takuya, Avery, and Kasi leaving the ruined lab. Reaper tried to call out to them for help, but could not make enough noise to catch their attention due to being buried under so much debris. Due to this, Reaper assumed he had been abandoned and left for dead along with Sparta and Venin.
After Reaper, Sparta, and Venin were discovered alive by a Team Midnight cleanup and investigation crew, Malak Denzel took an interest in the trio. He brought them back to Team Midnight's main base in the Orre Region, and after much torture and reconditioning, put them all through a modified version of the DNA Splicing procedure. Reaper was spliced with samples of Takuya's pure human DNA that were able to be salvaged from the ruins of the Sinnoh lab. This gave Reaper not only the ability to learn and speak fluent human language, but also skyrocketed his brain capacity for independent thought and cognition. It also transformed his body with homo-sapien characteristics such as five-digit hands, feet, and human-like arm and legs. Malak Denzel also put in some enhancements of his own, giving Reaper multi-layered wings, venomous fangs, and retractable, sickle-like claws on his fingers.
Reaper would be put in charge of monitoring Takuya when he was eventually re-captured by Malak Denzel himself and brought back to the Orre Region base. Due to the torture and reconditioning he went through along with past events, Reaper had by this point developed a deep-rooted hatred for his former master. When he is put in charge of Takuya in the base's torture room, Reaper ends up disowning his former master entirely after testing Takuya's memory, and washes his hands (or claws) of him. But not before cruelly demoralizing and berating Takuya, even going so far as to spit in Takuya's face, as well as using one of his sickle claws to leave Takuya with a permanent x-shaped scar on the right side of his chest so he can "never forget his treachery." Later after a fight in which he brutally injures Avery by slicing into his back, he comes back to the torture room to torment Takuya yet again by showing him his blood-covered hand. After telling Takuya who the blood belonged to, Reaper proceeded to lick some of the blood off one of his hands, telling Takuya that he will drink his friend's blood "like a fine wine" once he kills Avery.
Later on, during a Team Midnight siege on the Oore Pokemon Lab, Aries is awoken after Takuya triggers his Shadow State before having enough training to control it. Reaper tries to tempt Aries with riches and power to join Team Midnight so they can lock Takuya away and keep Aries in permanent control of his body, but is unsuccessful as Aries staes does not care for "Material need and wants" and only respects battle prowess and strength. Aries is quick to make his point after Reaper moves to engage, throttling both him and Sparta who end up overwhelmed by Aries' strength and power. Dante manages to seal Aries into a dormant state again, and Reaper is taken into intensive care with Sparta.
After Reaper awakens, he is not fully healed and mistakes Takuya for Aries. After a panicked attempt to escape, and realizing that Aries is dormant, Reaper bitterly starts to tell Takuya off for his abandonment, but Takuya is quick and sharp to correct Reaper's viewpoint. The Both of them then reconcile, letting their sadness flow out as they forgive each other, and themselves. After that, Reaper once again swears loyalty to Takuya and their friendship, as Takuya does the same with Reaper.
Reaper still maintains all the attack moves of a normal Scyther despite having some human DNA sequences. His agility is greatly increased due to the multi-layered wings on his back, which can propel him through the air at speeds tenfold of a normal Scyther. He can also inject opponents with poison, due to his genetically-altered fangs. The venom from these fangs is equivalent to the potency of a fully-evolved Arbok, and also contains a hallucinogenic compound along with fear-inducing toxins. All of Reaper's basic abilities also benefit from improvement.
At first, Reaper's personality is cold, calculating, and brutal. He does not care for honor, ethics, or morals... Only about power, control and revenge. Reaper is not above using dirty tricks, either. In battles, he will put constant pressure on opponents, strike with ruthless efficiency and aggression, and study his opponent's moves carefully so he can adapt to their battle styles and outsmart them. He will also leave no opportunities wasted to inflict as much pain, misery, and damage as he possibly can. Reaper is also not one to shy away from extremes such as killing or murder, and does so without remorse or a second thought.
After the reconciliation, Reaper is more forgiving and methodical, but his battle tactics remain largely unchanged. He still will go for weak points and openings, but he will no longer try to kill his enemies. Instead, he aims to incapacitate them if they won't listen to reason. He will still cause pain as well, but only if he needs to in order to get his point across.
As for hobbies, Reaper picks up reading novels from Dante, but his taste in genres is a bit more "tasteful and refined" than the selection Dante Prefers. Hence, he doesn't read very many "trashy books" with explicit adult content like Dante does. Reaper also enjoys classic strategy games such as Chess, which he is very good at. He plays Chess with Dante, and even Takuya later on, seeing that he thinks the game can help Takuya keep a cool mind under pressure.
Memorable Quotes:
“I am insulted! You don’t even remember us after what happened! Well then, I guess I better give you a hint...”
"I battled many others for you, with great pride. Like a gladiator would fight for the favor of his Emperor in the arena…"
“Quit lying! We know that you were only thinking of yourselves, and as Master Denzel told us in advance, all you would do is grovel a bunch of bullcrap! Unfortunately, he was correct, right down to the letter.”
"You left us for dead! Now, its our turn to return the favor.”
"Isn’t it obvious? We lied...."
“Now witness your doom, as you will now have to face off against your friend. The one you raced all the way here to try and save… Too bad it’s all going to be for nothing.”
“My my, he’s gotten really emotional all of a sudden, hasn’t he?”
“Takuya… I… I hope you are satisfied…”
"At the lab, while I was trapped underneath all that debris, I saw you walking off with Kasi, Avery unconscious as you carried him over your shoulder... I tried to cry out to you, I tried to free myself from the rubble... I tried everything to make enough noise so that you would hear me! I tried so hard, and despite all that, you never heard me!”
"I... I wish things were like the way they were before. Before all this happened… Just don't leave again… Please, Takuya…. I broke into so many pieces... Don't leave me again... I wouldn't be able to take it a second time..."
“I could see what you were planning to do as soon as you made that move. I didn’t need Telekinesis to figure it out: You’re trying to get my queen.”
“See? You ended up boxing your own king in. He can’t move forward, because there’s a pawn in front and to the diagonal front. He can’t move right because I have a knight ready to pounce on that spot, he can’t move left because he’s boxed in against your rook, and he can’t move backward because that would be off the board. Checkmate.”
“It’s just a game in the end, Dante.”
