Cherry and chocolalate the perfect chums to cheer you up from the kitchens of jakejynx

New recipe! Nobody's perfect, and these cookies are proof of it for me. A good number of them simply fell apart while moving from the cookie sheet to the cooling racks. I didn't dry the cherries well enough, and the moisture left in them caused extensive gooey-ness around the middles.

These things came out super rich. They're like fudgey, cookie-shaped brownies. I'll go ahead and include the recipe, for those interested.

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
1.5 cups all purpose flour
1/2 cup baking (unsweetened) cocoa
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
~48 maraschino cherries, dried (lay them out to dry on a napkin)

Frosting:

1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
3 teaspoons cherry juice (retained from maraschino cherries)

Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients and gradually add to creamed mixture. The batter should come out very thick and firm. Shape the batter into ~48 balls, about 1 inch round and place onto baking pans. Push one cherry down into each ball.
For the frosting, melt the chocolate chips in the milk over low heat. Remove from heat after melted and add the cherry juice. Mix well. Spoon about 1 teaspoon frosting over each cherry. Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes and cool on wire racks.
