This is the hard war gear I go in to battle with, as a knight of my 12th century reenactment society!
A face plated Sicilian phyrgian helmet in 12g steel, a padded jacket (gambeson) under a hauberk of half riveted half solid flat ring maille, with integrated coif of iron and ventail, a padded coif to protect my hair! A pair of matching chausse for my leggies! And enough belts to hold it all up and tight! It legitimately requires a second pair of hands to get me fully kitted! All the ties round my arms and such!
A surcoat in the colours that match the shield of the lord I fight to protect in battle! A proud rampant lion! Party per pale argent vert, a gules lion rampant!
And what would a fighter be without a finely crafted sword, hand made by a man from Leicester, and refined by a man in Lancaster! My beautiful Heron! She's swings, cuts, and thrusts with grace!
We do some serious competitive fighting! Not as mad as battle of the nations! But I've broken a finger, some ribs, dislocated a thumb! And god knows how many minor cuts, burns, and grazes I've had in the last 7 years!

It's great fun! The competitive edge on winning a sword fight be based on training not luck, its... Intoxicating!
And I'm not the worst someone's been knocked about but there's not a many who's had worse lol. One guy got hit in the crotch hard enough he had a twisted testicle!
As for giving it a go without knowing where you live I wouldn't be able to make a recommendation...

It's okay lol. I've looked for a good long while and the closest places there was to me, was on the other side of my state, about 9-10 hours away from me.
One day I'll probably get into it actually lol xP In the meantime I've just been watching videos about competitions and some of the basics (and advanced) techniques. Really cool stuff! As a martial artist myself, I was able to see a lot of similarities in the footwork specifically lol :3

Absolutely! Don't fall over! XD
Yeah that was one of the first things we learned in my lessons as well lol :P
I will say that one of my personal favorites was always the longsword, but with the more tapered point and more emphasis on thrusts. Just always tickled my fancy lol.

Shields are definitely nice! If I was doing full-on reenactment, I would probably want one too lol. I've always wanted to try foil fencing as well, because when it comes to single handed swords I think I prefer Rapiers over some others. But it seems like it's almost exclusively a "rich person's" sport here in the US. Which may not be entirely true, but every time I've come across it, it's been a club for the prestigious. :(
I guess foil has an image of it. But I got in a few months in my formative youth for like £5 ($7-8) a session at a local village hall (borrowed kit too). Reenactment has ended up costing over £1k in steel kit over the years, whereas I'd have spent a lot less if I had stuck to only foil. I'd also have a much less versatile fighting style! Plus I get to fight more people! The soc I'm in is like 600 people. Whereas that foil club had like 15 people! Plus I get to use and fight against spears, axes, archers, and glaives and more!
A glaive would be awesome to get to use! I love polearms but haven't even seen one in person, let alone handled one lol. Whereas I've atleast handled axes and longsword before. I'm having to remind myself now that the 8 hour trip is too far for a reenactment community xD
XD
I do occasional requests ATM, as you've enjoyed :p , I don't get on with commissioning, either I get the money up front and my brain goes "got paid don't need to work now" which obviously is bad ethics, or I don't get paid first and my brain goes "well, they haven't paid yet so nothing has to happen, I'll do it when I have practiced X feature" then it's 6 months later and I'm too cowardly to get started and wold rather everyone forget about it!
Still not gonna do lewd lol

Yeah my friend doesn't really do lewd stuff anymore, unless it's classy style of stuff, like pin-ups. But even then its pretty limited. But he used to do it fairly regularly so we tease him about it and call him our resident lewd slave xP
If you ever did start taking commissions, I'd be more than happy to order some pieces from you. Then I'll just sit here and try to motivate you over the internet. "Its been 6 months! Where's snoots?!?"

Nah, I also am not such a fan of the expectation that money puts on, and I'm aware that I'm probably the one with the expectations to quality rather than commissioner, but still. I happily take requests, if they're sensible, 'cause I can do it my own way lol, at least within reason

I never closed 'em, they're kind of perma open, until I get some creep PMing me to draw the buttocks of some (semi) famous Disney character in a seductive manner\ 2 Disney animals boxing and gruesom again.... They were harassing other artists too by the look of it!
There's a few on the back burner for now but that's more inspiration\ technical skill than any punishment to the requesters
