Somehow these two very different things have been conflated by those who typically are radical nationalists so I'm here to explain the difference to everyone else.
Patriotism is the act and belief that one's own self, respects and loves their birth country or country of residence and is willing to defend it from threats, foreign and domestic, be it against physical or ideological harm.
Radical Nationalism is the act and belief that one's birth country or country of residence is superior to all others at the detriment of foreign countries and even persons within their own country that question the choices, actions, beliefs, or other implemented systems of said country.
Radical Nationalism has, since world war two, been noted as a dangerous sign of fascism and tyranny for the fact it leaves little to no room for change, criticism, and revolves around unified herd mentality, it uses tactics of fear mongering and inflated ego-centrism to maintain the herd and creates a sense of "Us vs everyone else" , this creates a sense of empowerment and safety for those "in the herd". In case anyone's wondering why this was after world war two and not prior- it's because Hitler was perhaps the most well renowned fascist to exist and these tactics are everything he used to create his nazi regime.
This is becoming increasingly prevalent in U.S politics as of late, and if you're not concerned about the state of civil rights in the US, the POTUS and his way of handling opposition or criticism, and what his followers recreate and act on his behalf-- then you're not paying attention to history.
Note: I'm not interested in having a debate with people defending Fascism, Nazism, etc. If you comment in a way that makes me believe you are instigating a fight I will simply block you, so please think before you type, thanks!

I'm intrigued by the notion of using CIVIC nationalism to RESIST authoritarianism (all forms of it regardless of ideology). That fits with the ethos of Judy Hopps and Undyne (who both have a dutiful spirit similar to Tackleberry from Police Academy). CIVIC nationalism is "for The People" (you have to imagine me saying that in a Bane voice), so it fits the definition of patriotism. At the same time, though, it's "radical" in the sense that it emphasizes The People's right and duty to RESIST oppression. A good fictional example would be General Leia's revolutionary Partisan movement that rightly sought to exterminate the Imperial Remnant. If the entire New Republic had gotten on board with her Winston Churchill-like plan (oozing with the liberating Spirit of Determination, I might add), the First Order would have never existed and galactic fascism would have been a footnote in history. Some good real-world historical examples are Lech Walesa's Solidarity movement which opposed the far-left, the Czech and Slovak partisans who took part in Operation Anthropoid which opposed the far-right, and the Chetniks who fought both the fascists and the Bolshies.
Notice how Dawn Bellwether uses leftist victmhood rhetoric in her propaganda, but does so to promote what basically evolves into a supremacy movement once the power dynamic becomes juxtaposed. Kinda like how the Matrix came into being, if you've seen 'The Second Renaissance' portion of 'The Animatrix'. The machines were oppressed by humans, but then toppled their oppressor, and then became the oppressor.
A true Liberation movement should remain a Liberation movement, otherwise it's hypocritical.

That's just ridiculous.
I'll go ahead and assume you're referring to leftists here. I can't think of a single leftist I've ever heard of saying anything like that. Seems to me that it's the right, and mostly the far right, that trades in stupid generalities like that.
If you can find any actual examples, please share.

You completely dodge my point, as usual.
We definitely have a problem with division here, but it's more than clear to me who sows it, and I don't think it's exclusively an American issue.
And I thought you said that you were going to fuck off to DA because FA sucks. What are you still doing here if you're not just a troll?

I didn't say you were a fascist. I said you were a fascist apologist. You've done it repeatedly, even on this journal.
By using the tired right wing racist trope of "Woke" in the context that you use it here you establish yourself as a racist, since the term "Woke" is a black American idiom that actually means "Politically aware and active". It's been cynically stolen and co opted by right wing idealogues in an effort to belitttle the left and minorities.
And you're clearly a troll. Everything you post is in the interest of provoking people who show even the smallest left wing leanings.
It's not namecalling. It's simple facts.

Rabid patriotism and nationalism are a sign of insecurity and a lack of critical reasoning, as far as I can see. Every system of power needs constant criticism in order to improve it, because none of them are perfect. Any system or person in that system that tells you otherwise is dangerous. Never follow anything blindly. That's cultism. Any group or leader that can't take criticism is weak.
People have been saying stupid things like "My country, right or wrong" and America: Love it or leave it" for decades at the least, and seeing a resurgence of this sort of garbage is more than troubling. This sort of thing leads to fascism.
