Yes, look at the paired images, cross your eyes so the two images overlap, your right eye should look at the left image, while the left eye looks at right.

They're too small regular screen and too far apart/large when I full screen :(

But yes, dreamy sigh, I loved this part of my perception class. Nothing better than a whole pictures to just cross your eyes and stare at.

I find it rather difficult to focus on these sort of images when their horizontal span is large, so I suppose they're better served for pictures that extend vertically, or have minimal horizontal padding.

Yes, vertical pictures would be much more convenient, less eye-crossing to do. Alternatively, doing it from a further distance makes it easier too.

Pulling back from the screen also has the unfortunate effect of making the whole picture smaller, so you'd miss details.

Anyhoo, I might try this on a picture sometime, love doing funny things to images. Thanks. =)

It doesn't look like either image is making much sense, concerning the dimension. For whatever reason, the larger character's neck looks like it's the furthest out.

Maybe the greyscale image itself is screwing with me. I know the displacement map makes sense.

Yes, could be, I don't seem to have that problem. It'd prolly work better on pictures with more surface detail, maybe a zebra...

I've done pics like this before but never seen one drawn that way. Not this well, anyways, despite it's flaws. Pretty neat.

I made an animated gif which emulates the 3d effect for people who can't cross their eyes (like me) or are to lazy to learn it (like me).
