Before someone gets weird thoughts, the two are both adults. He's just shorter than average for his species (they are shorter than humans in general) and she's around 1.8 meters tall (almost 6 ft tall for you guys who like Freedom Units)

It's satirical, probably a direct reference to when some restaurants renamed French Fries to Freedom Fries. More broadly it mocks America's self agrandizing tendency to identify itself with the abstract concept of freedom.
