The heat wave in Paris is becoming hardly bearable... and it is just the beginning!

I am not sure that making a hole in a wall or even a window would please the building owner...
In addition, at work, they don't plan giving us any air cooler. These devices are only for computer's rooms.
I also think about the homeless people dying of dehydration I see in the street of Paris: it's like a cold shower!

I am working from home since the pandemic... and, even if I always work with my own archaic second-hand laptop, I have an access to a somehow "powerful" remote computer (in command line interface via SSH). I am allowed to go to work yet I didn't last week because of the heat and most of my colleagues are on vacation. I don't usually take my vacations in Summer because... well... I am not really "mainstream" (and I don't have children).
Last Summer, during the heat wave, I was making a little break of 3 or 4 minutes in the corridor of the server room before going back in my office. Some of my colleagues were spending longer breaks in this cool place... ;-p - In addition, where I work, the research department is located in a ramshackle building and many people don't even know there is a research department located there. ^^

En fait, je viens de prendre une douche pour baisser ma température, mais si ça continue, je vais sortir les bouteilles d'eau du congélateur pour dormir avec... cela me rappelle que cela fait bien longtemps que notre congélateur n'a pas été dégivré. Je devrai peut-être y songer un jour...

Après, pour ce qui est du Père Noël, je dirais que c'est un peu comme le Communisme, on a le droit d'y croire si on veut... mais la question est veut-on vraiment y croire ? Non, parce qu'un mec avec la dégaine d'un Karl Marx arborant une barbe de taliban et enveloppé d'un gros manteau (qui pourrait très bien cacher des explosifs) qui débarque dans mon salon en plein nuit pour y entreposer des cartons, moi je suis contre. C'est un coup à avoir des ennuis comme ce brave Jawad !

Buy some flexible air duct.
Join the duct to the fan inlet with duct tape.
Wire in a power cable.
Now you have a device to move air in volume from one place to another. Hang the inlet out of a window, and you have a way to bring cooler outside air into your room and blow it over you.
It's not as good as true air-con. It'll never get you below outside ambient, but outside ambient is still a little cooler than indoors. It's a lot smaller and cheaper than air conditioning though, and uses a fraction of the power, and you can tuck it away in a cupboard when not in use.

Well, this would be very useful between 4 and 6 in the morning, when the weather is actually "cooler" outside than inside. Not sure that my neighbours would appreciate the noise. Currently, at 16:40, the temperature of my flat is about 30°C because I closed the windows around noun. Outside, it is currently 37-38°C. And I have to go out to buy some stuffs to eat this evening. :'-(

Once I even removed it completely... a colleague told me that it was the first time in ten years that he saw me without something around my neck (well, he was barefoot, just wearing a short and T-shirt... like most of my male colleagues in the Research Department).

It's useful here, because most British houses are designed to collect and trap heat inside for winter. These heatwaves are pretty rare for us, so heating is more important than cooling. So when the weather does get hot, the outside air is usually cooler than indoors.

Sinon, il fait relativement sec, ce qui est plutôt un bon point. L'humidité serait désastreux.
Je me souviens avoir passé mes vacances d'Été 2013 chez mon oncle près de Sherbrooke.
Il faisait alors près de 30°C avec 85% d'humidité → l'Enfer tropical en plein Québec !
