I really should have uploaded this last year right after i had it drawn out on paper. At least that way, i can dodge every claim that i've based the design from the recent movie "300"
*slaps forehead*
Anyways this is an old picture i did last year of Melchior's redesign. I toned down his outfit to look a bit more adventury and more fantasy/medieval as opposed to the sci-fantasy look i gave him the last time i drew him. I like it :)
Far as i remember, i wanted to go for a warrior-look, and so after watching gladiator, reading through my old mythology book and stuff, i decided to fashion Mel after the greeks, hence the helmet with the plume.
As such I did quite a number of changes to his outfit. I added a chestplate since I figured that every adventurer needed at least a tiny amount of personal protection, changed the look of Searbrand (The name of his weapon) by making it smaller but still wicked looking and outlandish, gave him a little character by adding just one pauldron and the pair of shin armour (which were the typical standard issue armour for his now-extinct civilisation). I cropped his hair shorter too, since i was getting tired of the stereotype "Shaggy, messy anime hair for protagonist characters". :)
The axe, by the way, is also another weapon used frequently by his civilisation. It's main purpose was for infantry to impale and pull horseback riders off thier mounts, provided they manage to get close enough without getting speared first. As such it was aptly named the Hook-axe.
I rather like the effect of the cloak. I'll post a backstory about him later when i have the time, but what i want to go for was a look which said that he had them for a very long time. Long story short, i decided that i'd like him to stay immortal in the sense that he never ages. How am i going to do that ? You'll all find out if i ever write that story. ;)
