I eventually gave up bothering with 23.1k dialup out at my house. Started taking hours to load web pages. Still unable to get any sort of high speed internet out at my house. It's a dead zone, so someone would have to reorient a satellite, or run line across multiple people's properties. Neither of which would be very cost-effective. So, I do a bunch of crap-work for my mom in exchange for keeping my gaming computer at her house and using her cable internet. I've found SL is a good place for me to work up new characters and refine character looks with near-infinite outfits slots. I'm also sometimes fumbling around with Blender, making various mesh items. My latest one is a personal project. A nifty unique camp hatchet.

I definitely feel your pain there... that new update/redesign/whatever of DeviantArt won't even load on broadband sometimes so I can't imagine how non-functional that bloated mess would be on dial-up. I finally gave up on it recently.

At least it seems like you've found some sort of solution, albeit not an ideal one, for the time being at least. If FA is working better for you I'd still be up for a bit of chatting sometime, although I'm much slower to respond than I used to be. Combo of depression and working fast food really leaves me antisocial most of the time but hey, I have bills to pay so I don't have much of a choice.
