JANE's Card Game
A fast-paced and fun femme frolic for 2 to 6 players from ARCH Publications
Objective of the Game
The objective of the game is to have no cards in your paw when JANE, the Lowfolk Femme, loses all of her clothes. JANE can have clothes added to her or stripped from her, depending on the way players play their cards. There is also the game-scroll of JANE, which has been magicked to allow clothes to vanish and appear by touching the game-scroll with the cards.
Starting the Game
Unroll the game-scroll of JANE, weigh it down, and tap the small image of JANE's face in the upper left corner to have JANE assume her normal, 7-item outfit: smallclothes, sandals, petticoat, shift, blouse, skirt and corselet.
Shuffle the deck of cards thoroughly, and then begin to deal them out, one by one, to each player until a Master Trickster appears. The person to whom the Master Trickster is dealt in turn becomes the dealer for the game.
The dealer then deals out 9 cards to each player, face down. The remaining cards are then placed in the center of the table, face down, and the top card is turned over, become the first card in the "table pile."
The Run of Play
Play begins with the player seated to the widdershins of the dealer. The player can either take the top card in the table pile and add it to his paw, or take the top card from the face-down stack. From there, the player must do one of two things: he must either discard a card from his paw, or he may play a "combination." Note that the player is not required to play a combination, even if he is able to.
The following are the types of combinations that a player may play:
(1) A "trick" combination, composed of: (a) a Trickster or Master Trickster card, (b) a Magick card, and © a clothing item card. For example, if a player has an SALV, a Magick card, and a blouse, he may take the three cards, announce that they are playing a trick on JANE to make her lose her blouse, and touch the three cards to the game-scroll, which will cause JANE to lose her blouse. Note that this will only happen if the item of clothing is fully exposed. In our given example, if Jane is still wearing her corselet, thus covering up her blouse, that particular trick cannot be played.
(2) A "pity" combination, composed of: (a) a Trickster or Master Trickster card, (b) a Pity card, and © a clothing item card. For example, if a player has The Third of His Name, a Pity card, and a blouse card, and JANE has been stripped of her corselet and blouse, but not her shift, the player may announce he is taking pity on Jane, and touch the three cards to the game-scroll, which will cause JANE to get her blouse back. Note that this will only happen if all of the necessary under-garments are still present; in our example, if JANE has lost her shift, the particular pity combination with the blouse cannot be played.
(3) A "wild magicks" combination, composed of 3 Magick cards. The player announces this combination, and touches the cards to the game scroll, whereupon a random item of clothing may vanish or a random item of clothing may appear.
(4) A "pity party" combination, composed of 3 Pity cards. The player announces this combination, discards the three cards, and then passes over any three cards in their paw to any one player. In addition, the other players must immediately draw one card from the deck. Furthermore, JANE gets two random items of clothing back.
(5) A "Hudalaleigh" combination, composed of 3 Master Trickster cards. The player announces this combination by shouting "Hudalaleigh!" whereupon one player of their choosing must remove all of their clothes. In addition, the cards are touched to the scroll and two items of clothing from JANE are removed.
(6) A "Dauphine" combination, composed of these specific cards: Feather Hat, Frilly Smallclothes, Beribboned Petticoat, Silk Shift, Expensive Dress, and Parasol. A player playing this combination must announce it, and then immediately have either an attack of the vapours or a fainting spell and be revived, whereupon they will have be deemed to have won the game.
If JANE loses all of her clothes, but any player still has cards in their paw, play continues, and any player that can play a pity combination or a pity party combination must play one or the other of those combinations, redressing JANE.
Play ends when one of the following happens: (1) JANE loses all of her clothes and one player has no cards in their paw; (2) JANE is dressed as the Dauphine; (3) no player can make a play of any kind.
Scoring
When play ends, players are penalized the following points for having cards in their paw:
[Insert penalties, with heavy penalties for having Daupine's items unplayed]
A player that has a full and unplayed Dauphine combination in their paw will have the cards touched to them, whereupon they will be temporarily transmogrified into the Dauphine, a process which we believe will wear off after a few minutes.
