Dream Diary, Fallen Angel (SP)
~Fallen Angel~
I have a recurring dream during episodes of sleep paralysis. The first occurrence was when I was eleven. My eyes open in Waking Life, and my nearby bedroom window explodes with blinding light. I can’t move, as my body is naturally paralyzed. Through the window steps a seven-foot tall man. His skin is burnt black from head to toe, and he wears no clothing. There are rusty shackles around his ankles with trailing chains. Blackened, deformed wings sprout from his back. He slowly walks to me as my heart screams for me to move. I can hardly distinguish his features if he has any beyond the burnt flesh. When his hand reaches mine, I fall out of bed.
~Analysis~
I’ve had numerous dreams of this angel whom I’ve named “Tai” for when I inserted him into a novel. Tai is, quite literally, my sleep paralysis demon. He has regularly shown up in my early episodes when I didn’t have as good of a grip on reality. Once, Tai found me while sleeping at a girl’s home. He took me in his arms and flew me (paralyzed as I was) over a nearby lake and towards the moon. Once I wrote about him, he stopped showing up. I kind of miss him, even if he did terrify me. A proper analysis of an episode of sleep paralysis is moot. I could see the light pouring into my room during the episode, which was emphasized by my sleep-brain. A car may have driven by and shuffled the light, spawning a human-like shadow to which my imagination took. In a real dream, images are created organically. Though there have been dreams that escaped into episodes of sleep paralysis, which can be analyzed properly once I get to them.
