One of Cynthia's favorite pastimes, besides admiring insane characters, is "being bad". Like she's doing now, striking a 'classic' pinup pose with an innocent "who, me?" expression--while blatantly stepping through a patch of wet cement. Unlike Tina, she doesn't get a thrill from walking in the stuff, it's the appeal of doing something likely to piss someone off or generate a big WTF?! reaction, and getting away with it. That alone is worth the price of messing up her (platform) sandals. And for that reason this is likely not the last time you'll see her doing this.
Technical:
Got a new brush for this one (Windsor & Newton 'Cotman' size 2-round bristle). It really helped the inkwork, leaving little or nothing to touch up at the digital stage. I was going to just cel-shade this, but I wound up with a slightly different technique for doing the shadows via Multiply layer:
The drawing of Cynthia herself started out being comprised of two identical copies--a flat-color one in Multiply, and a straight B/W one underneath that keeps the backdrop from showing through the flat-color layer's transparency. I established a third copy/layer in Multiply mode, and filled it in black (I know one shouldn't use black for shadows, but I don't yet know what else to use), and airbrushed white onto the areas that were not to be shadowed. Those became areas of increased transparency and let the colors underneath show through more brightly than the others. Once done, adjusting the layer's transparency subdued the shadows to a semi-realistic level. The subtle highlights were done the same way, so in the end Cynthia ended up being five layers all by herself.
It's not very evident at this size, but her shorts also have a denim texture that I picked up from a Photoshop tutorial here. The app I use is enough of a PS wannabe that the tutorial mostly worked, aside from a couple of workarounds to make up for the lack of an identical Texturize effect.
Brush-inked pencils processed in Micrografx Picture Publisher 8. 235MB uncompressed at full-size.

Not with the style of sandals she's wearing. With slides, yes, that could be a possibility, but not these--they have ankle straps that would prevent that from happening.
If I do a shoe-losing theme, the next candidate would be a pair of slip-on Vans or something similar. But not with this particular character--she's not prone to risking the continued possession of her footwear just for a cheap thrill :)

That's pretty much what the section of sidewalk on my block that some kid deliberately sank her boots into, looked like.
In fact, it inspired this pic
(but yes, I could have added some excess spillage and an unfinished-looking transition between the sidewalk and the foundation wall, if that's what you mean. I couldn't figure out how to make the broom marks so they would look realistic and remain visible when I reduced the pic)

O yes! This is really doing it for me, I've gotta say. I love the fact that she's wearing sandals, most footwear that I see in pics on FA are closed shoes, I love seeing 'dem toes. ^_~ Everything about this picture is just done SO well - the effects she's caused on the cement, her coy pose and expression....the strap around her tail is something I've never thought of before (what with shorts/jeans and tails being in the way, I should've come to that conclusion ages ago). :)
More sandals are needed! ^_^
Also, it's just as well that that cement hadn't had just a little longer to dry in the sun, or she might've lost her sandals to it - even though they are securely fastened, couldn't there be the tiniest risk of them getting stuck in the cement and those soft leather straps just tearing off when she tugs her foot up? ^_~
I so look forward to seeing more of her (especially if she's got her feet in sandals again ^_^) - or I would happily commission something, if I had the cash... *wistful sigh*
