The crazy story moments spawned from the random rolls is one of the best parts of D&D.
I have a group I DM on Saturdays, and the latest session one of the players rolled a nat20 to hit every single round of a combat encounter, thoroughly wrecking two of the three giant crocodiles with her arrows and greatly hurting the last one before the wildshaped druid crushed it. She was definitely MVP that session.
