Another sketch done on the Apple iPad in the Brushes app. There are many things wrong with the image, but I am happy enough with it seeing as it is one of my first drawings. This was done using the Pogo Stylus with NO pressure sensitivity.

I'm not bashing it, I'm just saying its surprising, given that when the presentation of the iPad was being given, it was mainly shown as a giant iPod with a few, slight, new features. But I'd change my opinion if it could actually beat a tablet laptop in compatibility and features
Nope. iPads, most smartphones, and laptop touchpads use capacitive touch sensing. Capacitive touch technology, as far as I know, has no way of knowing how hard you're pressing. It might be able to tell how big of a thing is touching it, but I don't know if that could be used for any kind of reasonable approximation of pressure sensitivity.
Resistive touchscreens (squishy ones, like in the DS and old Palms and Pocket PCs) can detect pressure to an extent -- Colors! on the DS has pressure support, for instance. The pressure sensitivity in real graphics tablets comes from a variable resistor in the pen tip which can accurately measure how hard you're pressing; it's the same idea as in an electronic bathroom scale. I wonder how long it'll take for someone to come up with a bluetooth stylus for the iPad that does just that..

Ah that sucks. I have yet to see an iPad IRL, let alone touch one, and I didn't care enough until you piqued my interest as to whether or not it had a resistive or capacitive touchscreen.
I was really hoping they were using resistive, or at least communicate with a stylus (which they could still do if they put their noggins to it)
